+1 Amen!

For me especially and as I get older.

Drury hotels rock. I had to stay at the one in Phoenix for a few days and was really impressed. Camping has never been my recreational thing... cold cold AC, hot hot showers... soft soft bed (is there an echo?) That's a vacation... Sleep is one of my favorite hobbies when I am able to do it for more than 4 hours.

When you're on the road for days and weeks on your bike you're doing 2 things you enjoy...sleeping and riding, lol. Thats about what it amounts to. Its the best I tell you and looking forward to doing it again real soon.

Oh and hey KS!! Always good to hear you popping in from time to time. What you been up to? Been on another forum? As long as its not HERD let me know and I'll catch up to you there. Hope this finds you well.

This Christmas we are heading to Gulf Shores. If the Lord's willing and the creek don't rise, I'll have my knees in the breeze and she will be in cage with the kids. She insist I ride... which is cool, but I'm not sure how the ice on the roads will be in these other states. In Texas it's not a problem... not sure about Louisianna, Mississippi, and Alabama.

Very cool. I wouldn't think you'll have any frost issues that far South. I was in NC for Christmas a couple years ago and it was 13 degrees up here and 70+ degrees down there...yahoo! I always felt better when wife was in tow in the cage with the kids, I felt like I was having my cake and eating it too. I was on the bike, fam damily was with me and if something mechanical occurred I had back up.

Are you suggesting you are someone who asks reasonable questions and expect reasonable answers bacK? How dare you! :icon_laughing:

Yeah I agree HDRF is casual, informal, not micromanaged and reasonably tolerable. And I like everyone here.

I hope your right about the frost. I like the idea of a backup as well. For her car as well as my bike. My inlaws and oldest son and his family are going as well.

That's a good start. :icon_rolleyes:

Careful - you 2 are going to give the rest of us big heads!!
As for the temps - you can always check national and any local weather on any of the websites- you can usually get a 5-10 day peek at whats ahead. Not always 100% accurate but you will get an idea if it's going to snow/rain/storms/temps...

As soon as my bike is 100% again - I'm going to do a quick trip to the Grand Canyon... as long as i can get there ahead of the cold weather.

Personality issues is another thing. When on occasion and when I had varying combinations of family participating there was always someone who was being difficult(almost always my ungrateful oldest daughter). And the irony of it all was I was paying for the majority of everything. I suffered her indignations to have her son, my grandosn have memories with his grampy.

I am always trying to find a way to spend time with my family and while being able to be on my bike. Haven't done a ride like that in a couple years now. And don't see me doing one anytime soon or until my son and his family gets a little older. Right now his daughter is only 5 months old. Plus I need to get that Alaska thing out of the way in 2014 and survive it.

Hey BI,
that Alaska trip is going to be a piece of cake for you - make sure you plan for pictures - maybe even get one of those video cams that Weljo uses - he just bought another one - here's the link he sent me - I've seen the results and it might be something to relish once you get back home.

Pictures. Thats the co pilots deal. My wife will have both a video camera and a digital camera. We will have back up chips, dvd's and batteries. I'd like to think that after all the other road trips we've taken that we have experienced every kind of fail/error regarding the picture/video side of things. One time we actually were days into a ride and I noticed my wife wasn't taking any video's. I asked her why..she replied she didn't have a dvd for it. On another trip she didn't have a battery. So moral of the story I will be lourding over 100% of everything to make sure everything is in order. Leaving nothing to chance or other people.
