Oh I hear you on that one. We camped when we were younger because we didn't quite command the motel money plus it was a welcomed experince. At 57 I really would prefer not to camp after a days ride. Nothing like A/C,soft bed, warm shower and no set up or break down. Not to mention hotels are here, there and every where and when camping you had to purchase the Woodall's national campground directory and attempt to chart your course that was campground user freindly.

My wife thinks she is roughing it when we stay at a hotel that does not provide a blow dryer!

I like the ones with the free breakfast(toast, bagels, coffee, bisquits and gravy,omelets,bacon,hot/cold cereal, OJ etc). We tank up then on food, pocket a few pieces of fruits and a bagel or 2 and nibble on that instead of lunch.

yeah as I'm getting older the camping isn't as much fun. I like the hot shower and real bed while I'm on the road. Even when I'm going cross country in a car or truck - haveing a real bed and a bathroom is awesome.

And it goes a long way with recharging you for the next days ride...something that is also a concern as we get older, lol.

As for the rooms vs a tent - each has a time and purpose for me - the tents are ok when I go someplace and stay there for a few days. But like you said - if you're traveling the next day the rooms are the way to go. A good night sleep, a real bed, a roof, ac, a bathroom a nice breakfast with coffee... yeah that's the way to go traveling!!

Each hotel we stayed in offered the free hot breakfast (with free being a relative term!). It is a huge time saver for our group to meet for breakfast at the hotel. And the bananas, apples, and bagels make for a nice snack or lunch.

And we tried to stay way from the low end hotels just because, especially and depending on the area. Like in Bloomsburg,PA of'n I-80 we stayed at a Ecolodge and it was in a decent area and right across from the restaurant with a NASCAR theme to it with, easy off and easy back on the I-80.: https://www.quakersteakandlube.com/Bloomsburg_PA/I don't care where a Super 8 is I'm not staying in it when I'm with my wife. Days Inn is a stretch depending where it located.

A bunch a years back I helped a buddy move to the east coast from AZ. I drove the moving truck and he hooked me up with a room each night - it was one of the best trips I've ever had. Mostly because I didn't spend the night in a car seat. but that made me appreciate the room even more. It was on that trip I learned how much better a trip is with a good night sleep and a shower in the morning.
