What are most guys doing about GPS on the touring models? The HD kit is EXPENSIVE!! Is there a way to mount a marine grade GPS on the fairing and connect it to the audio without spending my retirement?

I use an Atlas it leaves a lot for my retirement

And damn the OEM for that GPS is like you say $$$$. To bad because it is definately finessed into the flow of the bike from the mounting to the interacting with the rest of the bikes electronics. I still may go the route as I am hoping to keep my bike, well I was hoping this will be my last bike.

Most guys i know use a GPS Ram Mount to mount their gps on the handlebars. A motorcycle specific gps is pricey i got a zumo 550 in 2010 for under $600.00 and that was a good deal but i've been in rain storms hit by a car and the gps was still hooked to the bike by the power cord. Its designed to take a beating and its bluetooth so it connects to my scala rider. You can get a cheap gps and an otter box or similar waterproof case and go that route. I get all my ram mounts from www.gpscity.com and amazon has lots of covers for them.

I was noticing you have a nicely fit and easily readable apearing GPS on your bike. I'll probably spring for the Roadtech HD OEM Garmin 660 and purchase the integratable cable deal. Been on the fence about it ever since I bought the bike last year. Might get the XM radio too. F*ck it its only money.

I ride with a guy with gps - he's my back up plan. I usually map out my rides on Google maps and take notes that I clip to my windshield bag. My system gives me a chance to really look over my route before hand and take the time to get a feeling for where I'm going.
I have GPS on my phone & I finally got a chance to use it, pretty cool stuff, but I wouldn't be able to hear it on my bike and looking at it as I ride would be too much of a distraction.
With my notes I write large and can see my directions with a quick glance.

I used a Garmin 52LM in a RAM Mount holder attached to either the RAM Mounts themselves and then later a newer kind that mounted using the blank space between guages on my CVO Street Glide. Worked great.

In fact, probably can sell the setup I have since I bought a new RGS!

Bought a 2015 Ultra with the 6.5 infotainment center and has a motorcycle centric GPS. Its awesome! Taylor made for 2 wheeled trips. Still use a map but the GPS gets me to the door step.
