I have a 2011 Electra Glide Ultra Classic. I'm looking to add security to it. I'm considering either the Scorpio kit with the ignition disable module or the factory HD security. What are the pros and cons of each and which is best? Is it worth the extra money to buy the HD kit?

Insurance is a pretty good theft protector?

everyone I know with the factory keyfob system like it, I haven't heard anyone complain about the bigger system. Insurance doesn't get you home and probably won't give you a new bike either. Maybe if you have a brand new bike they might replace but the insurance I have goes by value of the bike at the time of the incident, they don't use blue book. You can buy insurance that you pay per thousand dollar value of the bike but it is expensive. DEERSLAYER

Liberty Mutual. Good insurance company and reasonable. My insurance gets me home and roadside assistance. Pays for a temporary vehicle too. Most importantly a peace of mind. If it came with an alarm system I'd be okay to have it but with insurance from a good and reputable insurance company its all good.

And you know a good alarm system don't guarantee nothing. At least with a good insurance company you have some important support.

don't most of us have insurance today, but about getting home, they aren't going to give me my bike to ride home, maybe a car, but not my bike. I know even if I had your insurance I would not get a new bike, they might give me 10,000 but I doubt it.

Thanks for the responses! It's been helpful. I have good insurance but I'll have more piece of mind with a security system as well.

Totally agree.... If some one gets to close its starts to chirp. So people don't just go up and sit on the bike, I've seen that happen before. Also if they are thinking about doing something to the bike once it starts chirping it draws attention to the bike from bystanders. Also if the alarm does go off the key fob starts to chime and vibrate in your pocket. So you might get a chance to catch someone in the act of doing something and let them see just how you really feel about it. :icon_evil:

I spoke to the HD dealership. The factory system disables the ignition and flashes the lights when you walk out of RFID range. If you want a siren you must purchase it separate for $95. The base system is $339. I have seen it online for around $280. The Scorpio system with a simple key fob (i800) is $109 plus $29.95 for the Ultra Classic connector. It also disables the ignition when you walk away, includes a siren and has motion/vibration sensors that can sound a warning and subsequent alarm if someone moves or kicks the bike. For $35.95 you can add a proximity sensor that will sound a warning if someone gets too close to the bike. Ground shipping is 15 bucks. I just bought the Scorpio system. It is definitely cheaper. It also flashes the lights like the HD system.

Thanks for all the responses!

Why would you, who has a used bike get a new bike? You would get fair market value for your used bike with no extra for any emtional attachment. I've had a few claims over the years and I've found insurance companies to be more than fair,no complaints, generous even.

And when you're stuck and as much as it be better to have your bike back, at least a loaner car gives you a chance to get home and regroup instead of being stranded. It happened to me a couple years ago on the Calais,ME and St Stephens,CN border. Fried a stator and Liberty Mutual sent a flat bed 100 miles from Bangor, the closest HD shop. Covered all costs after the minor deductable.
