this year i actually took my bike to the shop. it is a 2003 and this is it's first visit. I decided that it had been sitting for about 2 years with little to no riding. I had to have my knee replaced and was a little weak to trust the knee. when i pulled it out it has 43,000 miles on it and i decided to test the waters at the shop. it cost 2 grand to have the 40,000 mile service done, replace the battery, and new cam shoes. it does ride nice and it tuned better than i remember it running. The cost chocked me, but when you think about how long i have had it and never taken it in it came out to about 300 bucks a year....

Feels good to have a fresh bike!! :icon_clap:

tyancey00, you have any good rides planned now that your ride is calling?

Fresh bike means a trip to the Sequoia's for me, this year might just be a weekend instead of a week.
Starting to love my new tires... really smooth.

UPDATE:
Well it's been a full cycle on the new oil - switched to the synthetics last year - all 3 holes.
Bike seems to run a little cooler with the new oils.
I'm getting ready to do an oil change with a little over 6K miles on this batch.
Tranny oil is like new - no changing that.
primary oil is like new - no changing that either.
engine oil is ready to be replaced. I ran a K&N filter this time - Chrome Part # KN-170C
The oil leaks/seepage is a little bit more but that was to be expected - and I was warned about it before hand. In the 6k I had to add 2 qts, about the same as the Dino oil. I didn't baby it - I put plenty of miles on her at 80+ some at 90+ - she never missed a beat.
I'm thinking about - when it's time - to go to the Iridium plugs from Bosche - any body have any input - I'd welcome the info...
As soon as I get her up on the jacks I'll take some fresh pics - probably next week this time. I'm going to wring one last ride out of this cycle.

Had to make a quick repair so while I had it up on the jack I did an oil change -
Bike runs good and strong on the Mobil 1 I did a 6k mile cycle with a K&N filter.

100% syn oil here too. I'm thinking the viscosity holds up better.

I use standard tranny fluid, but I switched the other two holes to synthetic a couple months ago.
I've heard syn. runs cooler. A mechanic told me I'd hear a little chatter from the tranny with syn. so I didn't switch it.
Have any of you noticed any difference?

RK cool idea putting blocks under the back tire.

RK I almost forgot to ask about your tires. How are they handling wet conditions, any more slips?

I am happy with my new Michelins, only about a thousand miles so far but a lot of rain and I get good traction under heavy power for wet roads. Off to N.J. right now for a car show in my old home town. It is a little funny this is a town that if you had anything custom in the fifties or sixties you were instantly pulled over. Should be a nice trip for the day then off for the week.

I'm pretty happy with mine too. I did have some slippage after a lite rain but that was due to the heavy amount of oil on the road.

I didn't say anything was wrong with dunlops, but now that you ask I paid 150 for the rear Michelin so I bought it. The michelins are in the Harley catalog as a replacement tire, just with thbe cougarspecial Harley discount of plus 100a or so. I like both tires, get a little more mileage out pf the michelin
