Bassdan, FYI..I'm not against metric motorcycles, I've owned them early on as have most. And I can bash metric bikes if provoked but never initiate the issue and would rather not. I used to get that from my ol' lady... My bike is a 94 I bought it new and still have it - she's been gone a long time ago... Just goes to show you where my real love is!!

That is exactly what I was thinking.

I actually put some faith in chaps. In the late 90's I laid my goldwing down at 65mph. I slid down the road on my side with only the chaps and my half-gloved hand touching. The chaps were worn down pretty good when I stopped and I had a blister on the palm of my hand from the gloves getting hot. I always wonder what that would have done to bare jeans..lol...the only damage the bike took was some flat spots worn into the engine and saddle bag guards. Picked it up and road away. So I don't poke fun at those with chaps...doesn't mean ya'll can't though...

Yeah - BI has a history of razzing the chaps...
I'm one that always says - use what makes you comfortable - what ever form of protection that keeps one safe is better than nothing. I just bought a mesh jacket so that I have armor over my elbows, shoulders and back - may not look as cool as my leather jacket but looking cool or keeping cool it all comes down to staying safe just in case.

Ultimately I don't care who wears what. Forums are for exchanging ideas, thoughts and opinions about things, all of which are not definitive by any means especially mine. If you wear chaps..yeah for you.

I'm 57 years old, been riding since 13-14 years old on one motorcycle type(started on a 1960's something moto morini) or another. Consequently I find myself at this juncture preferring touring over any other form of riding and own a 2012 Ultra, while avoiding the large rally crowds.

Also I have several forms of gear. I have a nice 400$ leather jacket from the dealership that I wear to work and then a pair of Touring pants and jacket both with kevlar and both from Tourmaster for my day/weeks rides.

And again what works for me and the thoughts I share on it will be nite and day for others who find themsleves at various and different phases of their 2 wheeled experience.

At one time and in my 20's thru 30's and a little bit 40's I was willing to pay the price to look cool (I thought) and had the rigid Pan(antiquated and agrivating kick only technology), long ass hair, beard tattoos etc.. my have I changed and conformed. No regrets either. Got it out of my system and don't miss the harassing by LEO's that went with it or the unreliable older technology. Much prefer the newer reliability of the modern technology as well as the senior good citizen military vet look..no hassles. LEO's do be profiling and thats pretty stupid on there part, againi in my opinion.

So my conversations, thoughts and opinions are just a reflection of my lifetime 2 wheeled journey. Good for me but perhaps not so much for others. And if my experience varies from yours no offense bitchs.

Yeah we are all individuals. I have had friends swear by the chaps, but I have never worn any. I can definitly see the benefit during the winter or in the event of some concrete ass surfing. A while back a friend of the family came by the house and he had on his leather chaps, leather west, biker boots, and doo-rag... as well as his Stone cold steve Austin hair doo and a complamentary goatee. I could not help but think that the chaps were more of a part of his ensemble rather than actually for protection.
