sounds like pre-ignition (ping) if the motor is hot. I found normal temperature with premium fuel it doesn't happen. When I say premium I mean 93 octane.

We put another 100 on it today through the state forest near us, was a great ride!!! only question I got at the moment... I keep hearing a very high pitched "tinging" from front end/ maybe top motor area ?, like a loose bolt or something, any ideas???? I cant find anything loose, it may be normal engine noise that I am just not used to???, remember the last 10 years I was riding a 2-stroke for enduro racing, so I tend to be VERY anal about "weird" noises, one guy I ran onto mentioned premium gas, filled it with premium and I still hear it, only under load, idle I dont hear it...is this a normal "noise" ????...

SUPER THANKS AGAIN for all the info guys n gals.....

Ohio Joe- found it, now riding it :icon_razz:

GALS???? must be talking about a different forum :icon_laughing:

Hey Joe,
glad to hear you're out riding that new machine - first of all make sure you keep your eyes on the road while looking for a noise... I've had similar noises - once it was a loose air cleaner cover, I'll get some chatter from my shifter linkage, gotta run good gas - not all "premiums" are the same... Mobil gas & Chevron seem to do the best in my bike. Probably not a bad idea to go over it - before you ride it - while it is still cool to the touch - and just wiggle things to see if they are loose. A loose heat shield on the exhaust might make that noise... a little hard to tell without hearing it for myself.
Keep us posted!!

Did all that, nothing obvious yet, going from a 250cc 2smoke to this big motor I may just be getting a bit ahead of myself, everything seems to run fine.... but since I am here, any suggestions on highway bars ?? oh and looking to replace the stock passenger pegs with some mini boards too (the wife is demanding that, lol)..

You made a good choice. The Heritage is a good mix between "round town" and "light touring". I have heard some complain about the suspention, but I never had an issue with it. I never changed the bars on it, but I could see where it could make the experience better.

Thanks guys, been enjoying it so far, now if it would quit raining around here I may enjoy it more...by the way found the source of the "noise", it is the chrome cover for the forward exhaust, haven't figured out how to make it stop yet, but at least I know its not something in the motor.
