No- he wasn't a short guy... I'm 6 foot tall - he was taller than me...
He was going for a cool effect - that's why I asked "What was he thinking" because it didn't work. Not on any level - I'm one to live and let live. So if he thought he wanted his bike like that, I'm not one to ask why. As we all motored up the mountain and he kept falling farther and farther behind, in my mind I wondered what the problem was. When his buddy told us what was up - I just didn't understand why someone would do a mod that made a bike unrideable. I could understand if he was short or maybe his ol' lady rides it to work... but no, just lowered for looks.

Hey KickStand,
you didn't realize you'd trigger the wrath of DS... LOL I think you were going for BI, in which I think he's opinion will be very similar.

I have to agree with DeerSlayer tho, I have an "almost" dresser in my RoadKing and I think its one of the prettiest and coolist bikes ever built. Not to take anything away from anyone else's bike but that's why they make so many different models and brands.

I am looking at my dresser right now and it is cool and bad, bring your wideglide around and learn what is cool. In any. Configuration I have it in I get complements on it. Dressers rule

DS...dressers only rule now that you're older. You wouldn't catch you dead on a garbage barge 30-40 years ago, who you kidding :icon_laughing: . In fact you'd be the first in line stripping off and chopping every unneeded part you could....tell the truth.

In many instances I consider a dresser as a one of many phases of a lifetime rider. You're not ready for it till you're ready for it.

I too think dressers rock. 10 years ago they sucked. My only beef with a dresser now is I didn't get one sooner. In the mean time when I had a sporty, no flies on my sporty. Same when I had the rigid Pan. Now I am totally enamored with my Ultra. 6 speed,6 gallon,103 motor and factory oiler cooler...yep.

Cool is relative. If you think your bike is cool thats all that matters. And hey..I have many people (non HD riders) tell me HD' suck all the time..I don't care. They don't know what they are talking about. HD's are one of the most superior motorcycles today. Style, fit and finish and relliability. And every bike manufacturer like the HD has to tweak a little here and a little there to make things right. In the mid 2000's Honda had rampant frame defects on there GW's.

So..Viva LA diferance!

I always thought dressers were cool just not for me I wanted to build my own. If there was a parade back in the fifties you could find me near the cop bikes which were mostly Harley police bikes, when I was about 7 which would make it 1957 a friends brother's friend had a dresser, I guess today it would be called a bobber, loved it. The British bikes I never really cared for and thought the bmw was ugly. Never saw Sportsters back then. Must of seen a lot of flatheads and a friend's brother had an old bike probably was a late teens or early twenties bike. All I remember was red and chrome. He had restored it and I use to lift up the blanket that was on it to check it out. Big bars that today would be called beach bars. A person come from GA. to buy the bike. I would love to find out what it was but have lost contact.

Don’t take me too seriously DS. Just yanking your chain. BI almost had me talked into getting a 2012 FLTCU, but I changed directions at the last minute and got a the Wideglide (yeah I know, how wierd is that?) . More so for the experience, but the economics was a huge driving factor. I admire all your accomplishments with your bikes through the years. My next bike will be a Roadking or UltraGlide.

As far as your critique of my latest ride: No, I don’t think it’s cool… and honestly I didn’t buy it so other folks would find it cool or me cool. I didn’t build the Wideglide. I have slightly modified it and I agree that a windshield does not belong on a wideglide… it’s just BUTT UGLY. As far as the cool look, the seat looks like an old man seat, it’s too thick and wide. The Red/Purple tribal flames could be better… mush better. I don’t like the crashbar or the highway pegs. I don’t like the flame handgrips. It needs the front of the gas tank raised or possibly completely modified… the forks need to be at least 10” longer… bayonet mags with possibly a wider front tire… and a paint job that I have yet to imagine.

Now anyone that rides a lot understands the windshield, crash bar w/highway pegs, and the touring seat… they aren’t cool, but they all make enough of a difference to keep.

I look at some bikes and can’t really imagine why people do what they do to their bikes. Keep in mind some of the new guys have a longing to ride and want to have the experience, but they don’t know much. Now pack that with the possibility that they could have been influenced by other folks that have just enough knowledge to sound like they know the game. I still remember one guy that put two oil coolers on his big twin and I questioned him on why… never got a good answer. While there may have been a good reason to do it, but he didn’t know what it was.

Are you saying they are both grumpy old men? I’m thinking that’s what I am hearing.
