My father passed away when i was 11 yeats old he had very nice 1974 sporster he bought brand new. Its been almost 30 years since he passed & i found the bike in very bad condition the tins are painted & in good shape the seat & the frame is in good shape their might be some salvagable parts but not many.Just seeing this bike brought back alot of memories of him taking me for rides when i was a kid.The man is asking $500 for it .I guess i am asking how difficult of a rebuib will this be does anyone know where i can get specs & parts for 1974 sporster 1000.I would really love to rebuild this bike since it means so much to me & my family he loved this bike & he passed @ 28 years old.i really think i can do this with a little help.

Hey jno,
Great to have you onboard. This is a good forum. About your dads sporty, this is what I would do. If I had the extra $500 I would buy the bike just because it had memories period. Store it and work on it as time and money allow, once it is gone you may never see it again. I would think that everything on that bike could be rebuilt, it is an air cooled engine and is not that complicated. Just think that when it is all done and you look at it -- priceless!!! :icon_thumbsup:

Best wishes and good luck!

Hey jno,
I was hoping that you were thinking that way. :icon_clap: Keep it in the family! Enjoy it and ride safe.
Update us and tell us how it is working out for you. If you can put some pics up, I'm sure that ppl will love to see the progress.

I look forward to the day you get to ride it.
