The RPHA - Max helmet is HJC's top of the line modular helmet.

RPHA stands for Revolutionary Performance Helmet Advantage - that just came out this year. This new technologically advanced helmet uses a lot of premium features that add strength and performance into each helmet. These advancements were either developed on the race track or input by racers themselves. RPHA - Max uses the "PIM" shell which is a Premium Integrated Matrix - combination of carbon fiber, arimid & fiberglass. Making the RPHA -Max a light weight - under 4 pounds. It is offered in 3 shell sizes to save weight: Extra Small/Small, Medium/Large, Extra Large XXL.

My initial impression after spending some time in it was - It was lighter than I thought it would be and was reasonably quiet (manufacture claims 84 decibels, which is still a little high) - but not as quiet as I thought it would be. It has a good fit with plenty of padding and high quality fabric. It performed well - rock solid. All the functions and operations could easily be done with gloves on. A very functional and capable piece of equipment. Every thing worked as expected and the quality, fit and finish were top of the line. This helmet offers functional good looks with an aggressive moto gp sporty style. Included with the helmet in the box, the Pin Lock Shield insert, a carry bag with cinch carry cord, owners manual & extendable chin curtain.

It's function comes from some advanced features:

Venting was easily operated with gloves on, chin vent sends air to both the face and shield, the chimney vent on the top has a very simple open/close toggle switch. On the back the passive vents are always open. The rear passive venting system incorporates a spoiler configuration that not only looks cool it adds to this helmets functionality.

3 position anti scratch, anti fog - inner sun shield operates on a spring mechanism and was easily engaged with gloves on. It offers good coverage and is well designed. It leaves enough room behind it to use sunglasses. Smoked gray - light darkening.

Shield mechanism - the HJ 25 Pin Lock ready shield, "Pin Lock" insert included in the box, uses the new and improved for the ARPH series center locking device that can be operated by either hand in gloves. The shield change mechanism is a very simple easy one click off or on. The shield system has strong gaskets and makes a rock solid seal when closed.

Modular Chin Bar - The shield and modular chin bar operate on the same hinge. The one finger operated chin bar release button is in red and easy to see. The mechanism can be opened with gloves on with either hand and creates a tight solid seal when closed. The chin bar has a removable chin curtain seal and includes an extendable Velcro chin curtain for colder weather.

The Helmets Interior - The padding in the RPHA - Max is made up of high quality materials like the "Cool Forever Lining Material" that actively pull heat away from the face and cools you off. It is treated to be anti odor, anti bacterial. This feature helps to keep the rider cooler and makes it a nice choice for sport or touring. The neck opening has an extra padded seal which helps to minimize turbulence and keep wind out. All of the padding is removable using snap buttons in the brow to not create any pressure points. If you are planning to install a communication system for best results use a flat/low profile speaker system. With all this padding the helmet seems to fit a little more snug but I think once I wear it more it will be molded to my features and provide a proper fit.

For added safety there is a rear facing large reflective safety patch, designed to add an extra measure of visibility to the rider.

Overall this is a great helmet, I was happy to test it - HJC is a good company with quality products.
