I bought a 1996 Buell S2T and rode it for 11 years. Loved it for what it could do. It chewed up the twisties and living up here in the mountains, riding to work everyday was a blast. It was black/Orange and a white stripe down the middle. I don't miss it:

I upgraded my iron in 2007-08. I sold my long time rides,1963 Pan Rigid and the 1996 Buell S2T, keeping the 1983 FL. I enjoyed both the Pan and the Buell and for 2 different reasons. The Pan was just cool and had it since for ever but I was getting tired of the constant tweeking and kicking(and not always the kicker pedal either), going to work sweaty and greasy alot of the times. Again, I purchased 2 used bikes for about the price of a new one. Old school technology is over rated in my opinion. I'd had about a belly full of its cantankerous unpredictability. Cell phones and flat beds for me now.

The Buell I only had for 11 years and mostly as a ride to work deal (I live up in the green/white mountain region and my ride to work is a narrow twisty corridor about 13 miles long) and with a few week long trips thrown in here and there for S and G. I don't miss either the Pan or the Buell.

I am now down to 2 bikes. The 2012 Ultra and which is up to this point very cool. Only had it less then 2 weeks so the verdicts not 100% out. And the 1983 FLHS..........I'm hemming and hawing about whether or not to keep it. You can only ride one bike and after a life long obligation to many bikes at the same time and as I'm getting older I'm thinking I'd like to just be responsible for one.

I hear what you sayin. I like my buel for short rides around town it's fun like driving an old hot rod, damm thing is very cantankerous. Just about finished replacing everything that needed to be updated from the factory. Now the new problem is the ignition key. It has decided to cut out, that means the fuel injections shuts down and on the highway that is not a good thing. So that is the new project that I am working on. Switch is back ordered from harley and costs $150 just for the switch. :icon_rip: I have other bikes to ride and this is by far the oldest and slowest, like you said you can only ride one at a time, but it's nice to have a little something different on the side.

Anyway would love to hear what you thoughts are about the new ultra. We have a thread here about the 103 engine and people like it. I am thinking on a new bagger, seems a lot of people are going the victory route.

I agree with having different styles of bikes. And if I could live forever I would have stock piled them like a MF'er,lol. However my reasoning for bundling my bikes and bailing for the most I could get is I am retiring in 6 years if I live long enough. Money will be a lot tighter. Maintaining even one bike at that juncture will be a challenge...have to cut down on the beer and jack. So in 6 years my bike will only be 6 years old...not to old for the tight motors. Just before I traded in my 2001 I did a leak down test and even though it was near 50,000 miles the numbers were the same as when it was new. Not to shabby.



The new 2012 Ultra....first let me say I was neither for the new technology and one of the biggest naysayers. After a little over 200 miles I have to say love it. The tranny clunks and makes the typical HD signature noises. The one glaring issue and I hope they offer an ungrade is the kick stand. They went from a 16 to a 17 inch front wheel and kicked out the front end a smidge but apear to have used the original kick stand and which doesn't kick out as far as it use to. Its just a smidge over perpendicular from the frame. I don't like that.

All in all the '12 seems to set lower, hamdle and rider tighter and at 75 in 6th gear your doing about 2500 rpm's.

FYI...my Buell was fraught w/ constent malfuntions including the key falling out of the ignition. Kick stand sucked on it too.

I with you on having different bikes and yes you can have too many. When you become a maintenance man for your toys you need to start cleaning up. As for the Buell from '96 to 2000 they had made a lot of factory updates to take care of the many problems that the Buells had. From 2000 to 2001 only one year there were a number of changes made too. Then it stopped, 2003 was the first year for the new style.

I have spent a lot of time and money bringing my 2000 up to 2001 specs and have completed all the updated. Isolators, throttle body muffler hanger etc. It takes a different type of person to deal with this, I guess I'm one of them. Too much time invested to get rid of it.
