Have you ever been to an accident way back your time?
If you're asking if I've had off's on my bicycles... that would be a big fat YES!!
I broke my back on a motorcycle but I broke everything else on a bicycle.
Let me tell you that a pair of Lycra racing shorts or a cotton/lycra Jersey, (basically a tee shirt with 3 pockets sewn on the back) doesn't offer any abrasion protection. I've had the worst road rash from bicycle accidents than anything on a motorcycle. I've lost the skin off of one side of my leg, butt, arm and shoulder - all at once. Motorcycles are higher speed and break bones, bicycles can be high speed also, on some descents I've clocked speeds over 60 mph, but mostly we race in the upper 20's& 30's. I've been very lucky to have never been in a pile up (yet) but I have lost traction and had the wheels go out from under me in corners and slid badly, road rash-big time. I had some bad wrecks on my mountain bikes, over the handlebars and broke bones that way. One thing I'd like to add here, bicycle helmets are a farce. Other that a trip and fall scenario they are worthless. Styrofoam covered in vinyl tape does not equal protection, it does equal a multi-million dollar a year industry that gives people a false sense of security. I prefer a bandana. That said, if you ride a bicycle and feel that you need a bicycle helmet than by all means get one, you might fall over tying your shoes, just make sure you put your helmet on first.
Enjoy the ride, enjoy the journey.
