As some of you already know I'm pretty stoked on some new Mantis knives. Kind of 'big little knives.' As I stated, the blades are only 2.3 inches long, but 1/4 inch thick. I don't think you can break these knives with a hammer.

Well, the first model I received was the "Tough Tony," a drop point version. I switched the pocket clip to the left side--the mounting holes were already drilled and tapped.

A few days ago I receive their "Pit Boss." It utilizes the exact same grip and frame--in itself a massive construction. The blade here is a wharnecliffe, or blade with a straight edge belly.

That model had an original edge far finer than the drop point. I polished my personal example, and the thing is flat out dangerous. Both models come in CPM-440V, which is also known as S60V on some knives. Very durable edge retention, and it polishes quite easily to a mirror finish.

Now, I like these knives for an ancillary reason. Because of weight lifting I have bigger legs. A folding knife of four or more inches kept clipped to my right front pocket digs into the top of my right thigh when riding. By carrying these examples, the knives carry quite easily, and yet durability is never an issue. In fact, yesterday I carried both of them when out riding, and never knew they were there.

As an added benefit you can circumvent your local knife laws by carrying a shorter blade, but you do not sacrifice strength or the quality of your edge.

I'm afraid to ask...
How much?
AND do they come with your edge or the factory's?

I pay 38 bucks for them. If a client wishes, I polish the edge. I can be woo'd to negotiate.

C'mon, Lenny, you've known me long enough by now to surmise it's a foregone conclusion I'm going to get into some serious hellbroth with Headmaster sooner or later.

My Dad always said one thing about us roguishly handsome 'Lithuanians' who might run afoul of the powers that be periodically. He told me, "Smart Lithuanians collect money, but the really smart ones collect favors."

Figure my history, figure the odds, then figure that Monopoly card might have some future value.

In just a short time the sales have already began. I sold a "Pit Boss" to a friend and customer in Tennessee.

Personally, I now carry a Pit Boss clipped to my right front pants pocket, and a Tough Tony with the clip switched to my left. I think my favorite is the Pit Boss. In the end I like tough, unbreakable things that work and I do love the wharnecliffe design. Time will tell, and I always fall in love with new toys.
