I have often said that we don't know how good we have it here. In fact, I just answered a thread suggesting "slow growth" to avoid a cascade of more stringent rules.

Now over at the cooking forum I have run afoul of their moderator--in itself no surprise, I tick off moderators on a regular basis. This one was a surprise since I was an ardent supporter in his fight against the increased spam. Out of nowhere I got a sizzling PM. My first move was to ask him why he felt that way, and got an even more sizzling response. Very bad move. I hate bullies.

You cannot put a moderator on ignore, most systems won't let you. But I can voluntarily ignore his posts and I have now started to delete his PMs without reading them. In effect, he is being shunned.

Not my first rodeo. A few years ago Bladeforums had three rogue moderators. Young kids, both drunk with power and unsupervised by a slumlord forum owner. Fortunately the conditioned was repaired, but not until a lot of decent members were either banned or just moved on.

I enjoy(ed) that cooking forum, but we all know the ultimate conclusion. Since I refused to kneel, my time there is undoubtedly short. I'm looking for a new cooking forum, and the good ones are as rare as good bike forums. That cooking forum is being destroyed from the inside, and it's a shame.

Not you...

I think you should start a thread with a cooking flavor here just so you can say what you like.
One thing I know about bikers, we are all foodies in our own right...

If you build it they will come.

However, I've noticed the yin and yang of forums, which is why I'm so protective of HRF. More to the point, for some reason cooking forums develop a clannish atmosphere of golden children. In one case a forum did not like new members registering and had a campaign to actually run them off. Another cooking forum had a glimmer of hope because the mod owned a V-Rod. As time progressed I found he probably rode it sidesaddle, at least from the gutless way he ran the place.

As much as I joke, if we were allowed to run a food section here, and we managed it right, we'd wind up with an influx of guys from there! Talk about bringing your work home with you!

It would be a good idea. I vent there, anyway. It was quiet yesterday. I did go searching for another forum, but the one I found had the same super-moderator. I don't know what's going to happen.

This is one topic that cuts both ways for me. After all, in a perfect world there would be no moderators. (I don't look at things like "thread drift" as a sin.) Clearly somebody has to be a road captain for forums because some people cannot learn to put their toys away.

The moderators I am discussing as nerds who got picked least in softball as children. In bike forums they would be guys who couldn't make FOC if they bought drinks all night. In foodie forums there is a well known tyrant who has been called a 'little Hitler.' Tilts the personal belly lard scale big-time, and is your chronic geek gate-keeper. Probably a mod because he cannot do anything else in life.

I never thought my particular foodie forum guy would go rogue and start venting. When you first get a guy like this you wonder if the objective of the forum has changed. For example, in one knife forum this very thing signaled the advent of serious pressure from a banner advertiser--an advertiser so fanatical he has now been banned by the very forums on which he bought ad space. My stone supplier reports he just got kicked out of another place.

And nothing roasts my weenie more than a geek who starts a childish dick-measuring contest in a world predominated by mavens of their mom's basement.
