My mother is in her late 70's. My mother is a Romanian immigrant who survived the autrocities of the nazi's and WWII coming to the USA in 1949 at the age of 13. Not all immmigrants went to Ellis Island. Many, like my mother, came in thru North Carolina.

Long story short, somehow and the craziness that is life sometimes, my mother's name ended up in the Library of Congress.

In Romania my mother was, at a young age, an accomplished Zither player/performer. Performing at many festivals in Poland,Romania and eventually in America too:

Apparently someone in North Carolina impressed with her abillities paid to have her make recordings(records) and the records ended up in the library of congress:

That is cool dude. Some folks believe fate guides thier path and some believe randomness does. Her life took an interesting path. Does she still play the Zither?

Thanks I'll pass it on and I thought so too.

Older and arthritic she plays the piano and cannot play the zither due to the arthritis. She was excited to have learned her music ended up in the Library of Congress.

Sure did but not to the complicatedness of the Zither. I played trombone in Jr and Sr high. I have perfect pitch and good ear. Use to play a serious harp back in the day and still keep a couple on hand if the mood strikes me. Music is one of my fsavorite hobbies. I'm considered a weirdo at work because when its slow and I'm doing mindless paperwork I put tunes on and sing along. I guess trhats not cool, lol.

Hey that's cool, BI, I used to play trombone in jr high and did play harp in a rock & roll band in my thirties. I try it now and can't get any satisfaction out of it. Must have been the beer & drugs back in the day!!! Sure had fun.

Same here about the harp. Perhaps we suffered more of the blues in those earlier years,(can't keep a girl friend, can't keep a job, dog ran away, etc)....lol.

I can get my dog to sing along any time I play the harp - so much so that he howls when he hears it on the radio.
My pop had a couple really nice ones, Marine Band or something Id remember if I heard it. Oh give me a home...
