I'm sitting in the breakfast nook looking out on a snowless back yard and city green space. I even went out this morning without a jacket to get the morning newspaper. All that will change wihtin a few hours.

Before I'm done at the gym, a major front will blow through my area bringing a blizzard. The problem is that not even the weather forecasters know how much.

Madison is 'right on the line.' The front cuts the city in half. If the storm stays to the west we'll get 3 to 4 inches, or as we locals say, "nothing." However, if the storms passes +20 or so miles further east, we'll get 8 inches, or more.

And right on cue I notice that my truck's gas tank is on empty and my coffee maker crapped this morning. I had to boil water and slowly pour it through the filter as we don't have any instant coffee here.

I have about 16 bucks is crumpled sharpening money in my jeans for gas, more than enough for errands. And the Sears in my area is right next to the coffee bar if I get momentarily stranded. Unlikely in a F-150 with only 8 miles to get home. However, if we snowed in our local street is never plowed out right of way, and walking a mile to our local grocery store carrying food back in knee deep snow might be a better work-out than the gym.

Coffee or food? Credit card for sustenance or bottomless coffee to keep me from running amok?

Well, I'm leaving early today to get my errands done before who-knows-what hits the area. Now that I've said that, my guess is that the snow will miss us altogether...

Hard to say as of now, 2:30PM CST. I went to the gym, bought a new coffee maker, hit the cafe' for a 5-shot latte' that would peel paint and then went home.

Right now is the worst part of any storm. We have already received about two inches of snow, but some has melted. That part freezes on the road over bridges, and even the slush makes pulling away from a stoplight a tad dicey. I didn't have to use 4-wheel drive for this much snow, but if you let the clutch out a bit, the back end would squirrel around.

The biggest pain was crossing a major highway leading to my subdivision. The stoplight is uphill. I can lock the emergency brake, put the transmission into 2nd gear, and easy the gas until the truck pulls against the brake. As goofy as this period of the storm is, just wait until rush hour! I cannot believe that people who have lived their entire lives in Wisconsin can drive that reckless!

High winds and tornadoes here, snow would be a blessing.

I try not to think about that. Where I live is right at the end of "tornado alley."

Last night I heard the weather forecaster mention "thunder snow." We have some mighty weird weather here.
