Me and a friend rode rt 7 from Rutland,VT to Danbury,CT,jumped on I-84 east to I-91 north to home. 447 miles. The rt 7 part was relaxing and enjoying with much scenery and interesting sights. I-84 and the first part of I-91 sucked we hit the interstates right about the get out of work time plus summer traffic. Much north of Springfield,Mass its back to rural nice. We finished breakfast at 8am and got home at 6:30PM. It was a good day.

I met a cool old man who was riding rt 1 from Palm Spring,FL to Maine and counting traffic lites of all things. He said by time he'd gotten to New Haven he'd counted 1762 lites thus far, lol. He was a riding fool and has a nice blog. You can find it by googling Dr. Bob's US Northeast Motorcycle ride or try rhopkins.us. We met him south of Hartford as he detoured to take a picture of the capital...another hobby. He rode and swore by a RG Ultra.

Wish I owned a pool. Would have been nice to have just jump right in when I got home. Good times.

Dr bob has a cool blog. Your ride sounds like it was a good one... 447 miles. I hope to get a few day rides in this summer.... I'd settle for one lol. Thanks for sharing

As nasty hot as your summers are I'd lay low until fall/winter. I know what its like to ride in 103-107+ degrees...its stiffling nasty.

Dr. Bob was an interesting person to talk to. He was all geared up with a full face helmet and commo gear and his traffic lite clicker dangling off his handlebars.

I am in the A/C most of the time at work, so that don't help. It makes the heat feel a lot worse. Once you get used to it, it ain't so bad. The heat I don't mind as much as the cold.

Sounds like a really nice day on the bike - long day - 12 hours... I've been on some of those roads, very nice country side. It's very different than the roads out here. I prefer the roads back east, more rolling hills and prettier country side. Until December everything out here is brown now, normal for this time of year.

I miss all the streams, lakes and ponds. Used to be we'd find a nice quiet place next to the lake or stream and pop off the boots and soak our feet. One time I was just so dam hot that after I got out of my boots I wadded in up to my thighs... nothing cools you off like wet pants in the wind...

I beat the heat out here by wetting down the front side of my mesh jacket, works great in low humidity like the desert.

Glad to hear you got a good ride in. :icon_thumbsup:

All of that rt 7 was unique and relaxing. Great road with a nice mixture of rural 55-60 mph and thru towns at 30 mph. I couldn't help buut to think of Alice's restaurant and James Taylor when I was going thru the Berkshires, Great Barrington and Stockbridge, Mass area.

The Connecticut part of rt 7 was surprising very scenic and rolling curves and stream side views taken us the some National park and whose name escapes me.

Jumping on I-84 snaps you back into reality immediately, lol. Night and day, lol. It took 6+ hours to run the back way on rt7 from my hometown to I-84 east and got back home via the expressway in 1/2 the time. I preferred the casual and scenic back roads to the hectic high speed mayhem of the interstates.

Have you rode up through the redwood forest?

I've taken RT 7 thru the Berkshires. Long time ago but the parts I remember were really nice and very peaceful. Some of those antique shops along the way were pretty interesting places. Luckily i was on my bike and could only look, cause I really wanted to buy an old diving helmet for my brother but had no way of getting it home. Yeah I went through there in the late summer, stopped at some small diner and some of the best pie I can remember. Old woman made them, I was lucky cause that was one of the days she did it. Bet that place has been paved over twice by now. Nice trip down memory lane.

The I-84 and reality are the conditions out here. I have a 20 mile trip to get out of town then it quiets down a little, but nothing like RT 7.

I used to go to Sequoia National Forest, Kings Canyon and Generals Highway almost every year. It's about 400 miles one way. Beautiful country side, and yes I did find a small stream and stopped, took off my boots and socks and soaked my feet while I smoked a stogie to keep the black flies away. I'd love to get up there again, soon I hope.

I would recommend it to all that travel out this way.

I have pics in my photo album from the trips I've taken up there.
Look closely at the bottom of the tree - that little spec is my bike.
