RK Thanks for posting. Actually the road I took was a nice ride through Kansas, changed my entire perspective of Kansas, and the people I met, very nice, glad we went this way. Someday will have to return to Deerslayer outlook. DEERSLAYER

I took an unexpected trip to Daytona Florida last week on my bike. It took about 20 hours to get there. It's fun to cover a lot of ground quickly... sometimes. On the way back I cut it in half and stayed in Fairhope Al. Fairhope is a neat area if you have never been. Overall it was a 4 day trip. Do any of you live in teh Daytona area?

Hey Kickstand, 20 hours straight? - Dude thats pretty cool. Some Iron butt going on there. Even if you took breaks - rolling, rolling, rolling!! Too bad you didn't meet DeerSlayer - He'd have some of those trips under his belt too. Me- the farthest one day trip was from home to north of Salt Lake City, UT - I left 4am and got there around 7pm - beat up a little from some nasty headwinds but nothing some cold beer and hot Mormon Girls didn't chase away. Yeah if anyone is close to Daytona we could do a rally ride.

Yeah if anyone is close to Daytona we could do a rally ride. I may have pushed my bike too hard. I think the rear cylinder has a rind issue or possibly a valve seat. The plug gets funky and it's burning a little oil (but not smoking). It looses power between 70 and 80... I'm hoping that is a fuel filter issue It also has a bad wobble now. I haven't had time to diagnose the wobble yet. For some reason I decided to put 40lbs inthe front tire before the trip and the tire looks like it is cupping a little. That might be where the wobble came from... but why all of a sudden? . It could be the fork bearing... but again why all of a sudden?

Over/under inflation make the tires wear differently - and might be the reason for the wobble. I had a similar problem here's the thread viewtopic.php?f=63&t=1829&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=aHope it helps.

Found the problem: I did jack it up originally and roll the tires and looked for anything out of whack, but I missed something critical... the spokes. One spoke in teh rear broke and most of them were dangerously loose to the point were I could move hte tire side to side . The first time I had it on the jack it wasn't like that. I found a used RK wheel that I am going to use. It's funny, I rode my Heritage close to 95k and I might have had one or two loose spokes the whole time.

Last week my wife and I were on vacation and we spent 3 days doing day trips around the state of Missouri. We visited a covered bridge near Goldman and we visited Ste. Genevieve which is the oldest town in Missouri, settled in 1720 on the Mississippi River just south of St. Louis. Another day trip was to Roaring River State Park in southwest Missouri near Cassville, which is very close to the Arkansas state line. Our last day trip was to see the remaining covered bridge on our list east of Chillicothe, called Locust Creek, 225 miles from home. On our way home from the state historic site, we stopped at a convenience store and Mertle (our bike) failed to start for the first time ever. A couple of gentlemen (and fellow HD riders) in a diesel pickup offered to give us a jump start off the starter (this was new to me) but that didn't work. Then they pushed me across the parking lot and Mertle fired right up. At this point, we were 200 miles from home, and I am thinking Mertle will get us home. Mertle is still running good 110 miles later when we pass through a town with a HD dealership my wife says, "Do you think we should stop?". And my reply is "I think we can make it home"......Famous last words!!! 3 miles later our bike quits running completely and we are stranded on the side of the road for 1.5 hours until roadside assistance shows up to haul us back to the HD dealership I just passed. While we were stranded on the side of the highway, we had 4 different cars stop (driven by fellow riders) to offer assistance, which was really cool. One couple in particular were traveling the opposite direction on the four lane and turned around to see if they could help. Very good people indeed. Our bike is still at the HD dealership in Sedalia and we are going to pick her up on Saturday. According to the service manager, the battery was the culprit and the charging system is all good so it was an easy fix for Mertle.

The one town from 1720 must have been cool. Did they have a historic district and some history to check out. That was the edge of the country at that point, kinda the west coast of the day Sorry Mertle had a problem but a battery is like you say - an easy fix!! I'm thinking that there's a whole "other" story you left out about the "I told you so's" Peace OUT!

I'm thinking that there's a whole "other" story you left out about the "I told you so's" Peace OUT! Yes RK, Ste. Genevieve has an old town district with a lot of history which I find very fascinating. First settled in 1720....let's see....that was....um....56 years before the Declaration of Independence.....that is frickin old! Also, yes there is more to the story about the "famous last words", but that's for another day over a cold beer. We are heading back to Sedalia to pick up Mertle on Saturday!
