Last summer we all had a discussion on how to beat the heat...
Well this is how I'm doing it and so far it seems to be working for me.

First off, I bought a new mesh jacket. They come in all different colors, I chose the one that would reflect the heat the most - Silver. It reflects the suns heat away from me and it is cooler with it on than with it off. I keep it zipped up all the way - seems to work the best.
Here's a link to what I bought:
http://www.motorcyclegear.com/street/closeouts/mesh_jackets_and_pants/first_gear/2010_mesh_tex_mesh_motorcycle_jacket.html

I took the removable windshield off my bike to get the most of the wind while I"m riding.

I now have a modular helmet - I thought - at first that I didn't like it but truthfully once I got used to it - I really prefer it now (my big bro told me I would - he was right!!). Also - on my last ride, it was 109 in the shade - when I opened the clear visor the wind was hot like opening an oven door... but with the visor down the air coming through the vents actually kept me cooler.

I drank a couple Gatorades and plenty of water and for the first time I was fairly comfortable in the extreme heat of the So. Cal Desert.

I thought I'd pass on my findings so the rest of you guys would know.

Happy Trails - on those very warm/hot days!!

No jacket, just short sleeve shirt and gloves.

Its been a stifling 90+ most of this week and which is unusual. We never hardly ever use the A/C. This year so far every day the last 8-10 days.

As hard as it is for me to believe it and therefore probably you guys also... I was/ am so much cooler with the jacket on. The jacket keeps the sun off of me & it reflects the heat away - I know sounds counter - intuitive but that's why I wanted you all to know what I am experiencing. I call it my "Air-Conditioner" and I swear it works great.

Here's a pic of the jacket - they went on sale for 95 bucks delivered!!
The silver works the best in reflecting the suns heat away.
I included the link in the OP to the online store that sells them.

Not all mesh jackets work. I tried one a couple years ago. Well still have it. Got a lot a ventilation in front but the back is block with back protector pad that can't be removed. They started right but blew it. Got it off the net and won't do that again. Got to have it in my grubby little hands the next time if there is a next time. Nothing near me though.

Thats weird. I have 3 mesh jackets and all 3 have removable back protectors.

This jacket is made by First Gear - all of the armor is removable. It has elbow and shoulder armor and a back plate. I can verify this jacket is very ventilated and the mesh works perfectly. Even in a slight breeze the jacket breaths. It was 109 in the shade and I was very comfortable wearing it - and - I don't really handle the heat very well anymore. On top of that in the sun the jacket keeps cool because of the color - it reflects the heat away. If you need a hot weather solution to riding with the protection of armor this is the way to go.
