 Post subject: Fill the Tires Full of Air

I did my monthly deal with all the air in my bike. The suspension front and rear 10.5 PSI and the tires @ 38Front 40Rear.

My last ride was a little sketchy the front end felt loose and wobbled on deceleration. I was thinking something was really wrong with my bike.

My ride yesterday was awesome, I was throwing that big ass beauty girl of mine into those corners like, well, like she can. I did scrape what was left of my floorboards off on a couple corners, she has her limits. You know you've had a good ride when you're smiling for the rest of the day.

So, what is this thread about? Check the air in your tires. I looked back on my records and wound up skipping the last air up. Everything was low. Tires were down to about 25psi and that was the problem. We had a hot summer and the day I did my air up was warmer. Yesterday was a much cooler day, makes a difference in air pressure plus 2 months didn't help.

Anyone else with Air Suspension: I bumped my front from 9 to 10.5 and it made a big difference with stability in the corners.
I did the same to the rear and that might have been the deal maker with the bike behaving well. Either way a little bit extra made the bike very stable in the corners. Big difference from the last ride I took it on.

Found the problem: I did jack it up originally and roll the tires and looked for anything out of whack, but I missed something critical... the spokes. One spoke in teh rear broke and most of them were dangerously loose to the point were I could move hte tire side to side :icon_eek: . The first time I had it on the jack it wasn't like that. I found a used RK wheel that I am going to use. It's funny, I rode my Heritage close to 95k and I might have had one or two loose spokes the whole time.


In light of recent events, I should have named the thread "Fill the Tires Full of Air & Check Spokes".

I just went out and checked my spokes, All good!! - But I will keep it on my list for the future.

I've had plenty of broken spokes in my bicycling career. I was happy getting one season out of a set of wheels... but then again there is very little in common between the two other than the similarities of design. But after reading your post I realized the one thing all spoke wheels have in common - once you loose one spoke the wheel is done.

Kickstand - glad you caught it before it became catastrophic :icon_eek:
