I just got a new set of H3 11 watt LED bulbs for my passing lamps.

The LED's I installed back 2012 worked great - still do - but - not a really super bright solution.
They only used 3.5 watts each side - and only put out that much light. The manufacturer rated them at 450 Lumens but in reality it was less than a quarter of that.

I've had my eye on a new set - 11 watts, cree chip w/ projector lens on the front and (4) 1.5watt chips on the 4 sides. These have a more realistic rating @ 380 Lumens of which they do look like that put out that much light.

I had to make the same mods that I made to the first set - cut the base plates down to fit through the housing - like a Chinese puzzle... On top of that - the bases were so loose on the new bulbs that I should have sent them back but I was prepared to reinforce them the to make them more vibration resistant so I kept them.

I had Weljo over yesterday and we did a bench test comparing the old 3.5 & 11 watt bulbs - we both agreed the new ones were many times brighter than the old ones.

SIDE NOTE: I can only say the quality of these bulbs is poor - they would not do well in a stock configuration in any vehicle - and therefore I'm not posting any links to purchase them. I got them on Ebay - direct from china - the shipping was quick.

I made the mods - cutting and filing the base, soldering the welds, that broke when I handled them, adding a ton of reinforcement solder to beef them up for life in a motorcycle light.

Here's the first set of pics - Unpacking and first bench test to make sure they lit up.

I have them installed - I finished last night - I haven't had a chance to ride at night with them but in the day light - very visible/ 3 plus times brighter than the previous set.

I just bought the kuryakin led headlight, they want 299.00 I got it for 194.00. They work great, I see so far down the road and to the sides right into the woods 10 feet or so brighter than daylight. Traveling to work at 6 am saw a deer in the woods coming out hit the brakes stopped about 8 feet from her, looked to my right seen another one coming then a third. Knowing me this is big, they also sell the passing lamps for 250.00 or so. The headlight plugs right in and the passing lamps need a connector you can buy from Harley. Going down the road at night with the brights on it looks like a outdoor movie screen as white as white can be. When I have the low beams on I never get any flashing lights from the cars coming at me, so I figure it is just doing what I need and not shining in thief eyes. My voltmeter stays right up not like it did with the stock halogen, it seems to use little voltage. DEERSLAYER

I do understand what seeing them while they are still in the woods means to you. The LED's really light up an animals eyes - a very good thing.
Eventually when the technology gets more main stream the prices will go down and I'll get a real set, like you got.
But - for what they cost me, I'm feeling better about being seen easier.

My headlight bulb that I got is alot brighter than the stock bulbs were - I can see much better at night than I did with any other set up I've used so far.

Still - a work in progress.

I guess I didn't explain it well, when I wrote I saw the deer I mean I saw the deer, the entire deer not just the eyes, these lights are great. If II had headlights just half this good back in 05 my handle would not be Deerslayer. When I go down a dark road reflective signs 200 feet in front of me if on the right angle reflects back and almost blinds me. I go down these roads everyday and ny Saab or my truck don't come near the bike lighting.

I understand exactly what your talking about. I am like you if it saves your ass 1 time it's worth twice the price. I do also understand that if you might of had your new light your name would probably be different.

If you get a chance can you snap a pic and send it to me? I'm interested in it.

The new bulbs are bright - I'll give them that - very visible.
The negative - they're not manufactured that well - I have to pull one out because the solder came loose and it was flickering and bouncing around... will keep you all posted.
