I have heat shields on my exhaust now and was thinking of replacing them with wraps .A friend told me they hold moisture and would make my pipes rust out .Anyone ever heard this before ??

I guess if you get them wet and leave them wet - or you live in a damp region they might attract moisture - rust might be a consideration. My pipes have a chrome finish and I'm thinking the heat from the exhaust would probably keep the moisture away... NO?

I think you are right RK,they aren't gonna rust if left hot and dry after a run,but if left standing while wet it won't do them any good I reckon. Over here, lots of rain and winter lay ups could be a no no. It wouldn't be a problem where you are RK,IF YOU WANT TO SWAP FOR A WHILE LIKE SAY 10YEARS let me know. You might grow to love cold wet climate, but take off the exhaust wraps before coming over. I think wraps look nice on a bike and can save the odd leg burn. Rod.

My original exhaust came with actual heat shields that were made of heavy gauge chrome plated steel, if just keeping the leg protected is the desire, you might want to look into that.
