Is it true that Harleys 09 and later the EFI will automatically adjust for after market exhaust and air cleaners?

That does NOT sound right to me.

You can have it cheap.
You can have it fast.
You can have high quality.

My mechanic informs me that there is, in fact, a certain amount of flexibility in the original programming of the newer bikes. When the Screaming Beagle pipes and filtration system were updated last autumn on Spinner, the test ride was initiated with the standard program. Obviously the bike didn't burn up, seize or catch fire.

The better verbiage of this idea is "proper and appropriate." I believe (and that is from the standpoint of the owner, not the wrench) that Spinner runs smoother, has more more pep and "on demand" torque with the download he added. In fact, we have discussed this upgrade as the program the XL 48 should have had was a factory installed feature.

Now, 'appropriate' here is the key word. The motor in Spinner and the newer 1200 Custom is the same. The wild card here is me. The 48 is a short hauler, the Custom is more of a light cruiser, and that's the crux. What does the owner want and need? Not every bike needs to be geared and tuned for the Bonneville Salt Flats.
