My on going issues with my 82 FLH. Went out and rode sunday, still messing with jetting issues and pulled both plugs. The front plug shows a rich mixture, back one looks good. Outside of the obvious, an air leak, which i did check for, do i need to address cam timing. What else would show this problem? Dave

you're most likely going to have to fix the leak before getting to timing.... since one plug is rich, the one that is leaner is getting more air than fuel and that is a sign of a leak. it would be after the carb, intake manifold gasket/head, maybe or a crack. hope it helps...

I searched for a leak but paid more attention to the front than the back cylinder. That's good advice!! Now I'm wondering if I'm still running to rich on my jetting issue also. I've gone all the way down to a #64 on my SnS "E". But you are right, find & fix the leak!!

For some reason, this didn't get posted earlier, so anyway---I checked for leaks last night. I used propane, WD-40, gun scrubber and finally, starting fluid (not very much), to try and find an air leak around the intake and head area. Couldn't get anything to show up!! What else would give me this problem, one plug showing a rich mixture and one showing a normal color?

unless you're running 2 carbs there shouldn't be a difference in the mix... that said, spark, if the gap isn't the same, bad or faulty connections, any difference in the plugs? try switching the plugs to see if that has anything to do with it. is the plug fouled with gas or oil, wet plug could also be a ring... thats what i got so far... check back and let me know whats what.

I'm running near new plugs, gap is the same, i could try a set of wires. Ran a compression test, both are at 91 lbs, wet or dry, that should rule out a ring issue. it is not oil fouling. I have to have a leak somewhere!

If it is a leak, gaskets or cracks in any part between head and carb. best to check gaskets first. good luck...

One more thing to check is the accel pump. When you twist the throttle is the gas squirt aimed at the front rich cyl? One way to test is to turn off the pump. Start it turn that screw all the way in and go for a ride.

Checked more for some kind of air leak, none to be found. Didn't have time to go to other suggestions. I'm putting a 30 x 35 addition to my existing shop. Need more room to work on these damm motorcycles. Right now I have about 14 of them in various stages of repair. I should sell them all and buy ONE new Harley!! Got to go out of town on business, will try again this weekend. Thanks for the help. Dave
