Ready for the next 40 thousand

With almost 300 miles on the new rebuild - here's an update.

I got a ride in with Weljo and Mike on Sunday - bike is running better than it ever has. Got some real guts now. I'm still in break in mode but all the new gaskets are holding, the gas mileage seems like it might have taken a hit with the new cam but too soon to tell. I will tell you that I have to consciously keep my foot out of it (so to speak) for now because she just wants to go.

Very happy with the results so far.

Most likely on the next ride I'll wind up taking the freeway home and I'll see what she's got if the traffic isn't too thick. After that - I'll start doing MPG's to see what kind of mileage she gets. She's got that "tractor passing power" now.

Nothing better then keeping a good ride going and it didn't cost 16,000$ either,lol.

The frame that my bike has, rides a little higher and that suits my long legs. I like the old style seats more also. Yeah - she's a strong ride. I think I have the formula dialed in for now. The tires I'm running, the suspension settings, intake, exhaust, cam, - bike rides the best it ever has. And that's not just me talking, everyone that knows that bike says its a different bike now. My brothers big grin when he got off it pretty much said it all. Weljo called a hot rod - he's no push over either.
I remember a number of times - going into a headwind, uphill 2 up riding - loaded and thinking this thing is under - powered. I don't think that will be the case anymore or maybe it will always be that but not as bad.

When I had a SE 204 cam put in my 2001 Ultra it was noticable in passing and from a stop. Oh and MPG went down. I think 2 up I was getting 36 or less mpg compared to over 40 before the cam.

500 Mile Update

Well she's still in one piece after 500 miles :icon_clap:

I took it as easy as my limited resistance could do - so - as soon as I did the math and had those "easy" miles in :icon_laughing:

I was on my last leg of the ride home - 12 miles of freeway - I had a good 1/4 mile of clear road in front of me and I cracked that little bitch open... 65 to 85 like it's never been but she didn't get shy and went all the way to the ton just as fast - I backed off at 105 but she wasn't done, she had something left I just didn't have any road left.

I started to warm it up for a much longer time in the morning and the weeping on the bottom of the jugs isn't as bad as it was in the past. Everything else is holding like factory fresh. The exhaust note is much deeper, I guess the combination of new cam, jets and air cleaner did something. I'm going to start keeping the MPG record now so I'll keep you all in the loop as to how the gas mileage is working out.

I'm planning a two up ride for next weekend so I'll see how it does up the hills - she's a BIG girl :icon_chairshot:

I just did a nice long ride yesterday, 295 miles. We did mostly FreeWay - running along at the pace of traffic, 75-85mph. There was about 40 miles of secondary highways and then some off roading in the sands of the desert to see my buddies camp. I zeroed out /reset on the road - mileage measured 265 / gas used 6.6 gallons = 40.15 mpg

Seems to be running good and strong - never missed a beat all day. Over 800 miles on the rebuild so far. :icon_smoking:
