Depends on the bike. Look at your owners manual for the amount. If you don't have a manual then go to the MoCo website and see the spec sheet on the bike you have. They usually take anywhere from 3 to 4 quarts. If you are unsure change your oil and add 3 quarts, start it up and see where the dip stick is add more if you are down.

Good advice. When it was possible to change your own oil in my little burg I always believed you should add a little less to prevent blow-by. For example, if your manual stated you should run 4 quarts, I'd use 3.7 when doing the refill.

I've seen oil spray out of the weirdest crevices just because it had nowhere else to go.

Back when men were men, I'd buy 4 quarts for my shovel. About 3.5 went into the oil tank, and the 0.5 went into the transmission. Never had a bit of blow-by.
