Is anyone wearing those kevlar jeans designed to protect bikers in a slide?

As many of you know I really pounded the gym this season and lost almost 70 pounds. I'm slowly replacing my clothes--which needed it anyway, LOL. (When everything got truly baggie I fished a pair of jeans out of the mothballs. The last time I had worn that pair was about 1978, no lie.)

Anyhoo, I like jeans that are comfortable for riding, that is, cut for more of a seating position. For example, back in-the-day I wore Wranglers not Levis. I now wear Harley jeans.

That "relaxed fit" doesn't help much. Uncomfortable is uncomfortable.

Just to get through the winter I bought a pair of Levis (regretfully) at Sears when they had a clearance sale. Just like in the old days I wore them for two solid weeks, washed them on the most rigorous setting my washer had, and then dried them for over an hour. They are 'better,' but clearly I'll have to do this many more times. Just about the time they feel good, it will be spring... :icon_rolleyes:

Before I plunk down 80 bucks for new kevlar jeans, do you think they are worth it? Did you guys have any problems? (BTW, I carry a lot of crap in my pockets. Today I'm lugging a chain-wallet, a business card holder, a Surefire flashlight, an asthma inhaler, a ZT0300 knife, keys, etc.)

Tourist,

Consider the Aero stitch transit suit, its leather its sweet looking and looks great, Has Kevlar in key places. Check it out:

Don't let the price scare you. Buy the pants first then the jacket later. Best looking riding set up I've seen in awhile and you'll look good in either your 48 or Betty.

Too late...

$ 1,497.00 :icon_eek: That's about the same price as I paid for an early Honda Four. This might be an option for many guys here, however. If bikers have one complain it's comfort. I've seen guys riding on the slab squirming around trying to find a new position.

I should mention that I often have to work in the pants in which I ride. I drive to the clients' place of business and stand for several hours. By nature I throw off a lot of heat--I have never worn chaps, for example. I have not worn any leather in more than five years.

I had a pair and they worked well for me. There are different makes some have more kevlar then others. What I liked about them was the kevlar in the knees helped protect my knees from getting cold. Some brands along with the kevlar have pouches that you can place armor in. I think that you will have to try on a pair and see if they fit you. I agree that you need to be comfortable when you ride it makes the experience that much more enjoyable.

Ride Safe :icon_thumbsup:

There is no place in Madison that carries this type of blue jeans, so I have been doing some on-line research. It appears that the Sliders brand is softer and closer to traditional sizing. Anybody own a pair of this make?

check the back pages of the mc rags, they have several brands and prices to go
I've seen them for under a c note delivered.
I've doubled up, one pair over the other of just blue jeans in the really cold weather, but I never had the safety pants.
I have one friend that swears by them and been down in a slide with no ill effects (to his pants area) his bike wasn't so lucky. So by his account they worked well. THink they were the "Dragin" or Dragon pants.
Hope it helps.

Thanks for the info. I have a few cold winter Wisconsin months to do research. I'll keep digging.

Funny you should mention "doubling" up on jeans. That's truly old school. As BI63 can tell you, that's an old biker thing. The jeans and jacket you wore to the club the night you were voted in became the clothes you wore from that time on. While my club was not a stickler for absolute compliance, I did have a few pairs of jeans that were patched inside and out.

Some guys were so hard on their initial pair that they had to have them sewn to a newer set just to keep them from deteriorating. My rags have never even been washed, but every seam and every patch has been re-enforced and repaired. They lived a hard life.

...and there was a human body in them at the time... :icon_lol:
