Hey drifter60,
I use synthetic oil in all my bikes. It lasts longer and gives better protection especially in air cooled engines. Go to the dealer and they will tell you that you can use it. I use mostly mobil 1 but I use the harley synthetic in the primary just to make sure that it does not hurt the stator. Hope this helps.

I only use the harley oil in my primary also but I've been using castrol in the engine since brand new. Havent tried the synthetics yet.

I have a 2000 1200 Sportster. Is there separate tranny oil? Or is the main tank all there is. I just got the bike, don't know much about it yet.
John

Don't blame me, I voted for the American! 2000 XL1200 Sportster.

polkcavediver,

Sporties have two separate oil systems. One for the engine this should be in the seat area and the other for the primary and transmission. The best advice I could give you is to buy a shop manual for the bike this will give you all the information that could help you. Look on ebay or go to your local dealer they are usually around $50.

Good Luck
