Hi All,

If you saw my intro, you remember that I just bought a RoadKing through Ebay.

The bike is amazing, both cosmetically and mechanically, and I love her.
The dealer was great throughout the transaction, and very patient with me, since I made a promise based on a "yet to be received" tax refund.......all good so far.

Here's the glitch, and my question: Did Harley officialy designate a RoadKing POLICE as a 100th anniversary edition? The bike was advertised as a "100th Anniversary Roadking" but when I ran the VIN, it came back as a POLICE.

There is only one anniversary badge, on the front fender. Nothing on the dash, or the engine covers. Anybody can buy the badge on Ebay or elsewhere.

Because I feel that the deal was excellant and I love the bike, I'm not making it an issue, but I would feel better if I were to find out it IS an anniversary edition.

Thanks for your time!
Swa

Hi Swa,

If the vin comes back as a police bike then that is what the frame is. Depending on the miles on the bike it could of been in police duty and then sold at auction. In order to buy a police bike you need to show proof of being in law enforcement and sometimes funeral homes buy them for the motorcade. I would see if I could get a car fax on the bike, I am not sure that you can but if so it might shed some lite on its history.

You asked for this and I will give you all my thoughts on this. I would be very leery about the bike somewhere in the history the speedo could have been turned back and it might have more miles on it then you see. It seems by what you say that it is a police bike that someone turned back into a civilian bike. I thought that all the baggers came with the anniversary badges on them, I could be wrong on that, but they definitely had the badges on the tank. They also had a police bike that was a tribute to law enforcement and for firefighters too. I don't know if they had a police vin number it could be that. Check to see if the engine numbers match the frame.

Unfortunately in this day in age you can find a frame with a good clean registration and build a bike from that. It seems something could be wrong here and you should push to find out everything that you can about your bike. You can even call HD at the factory main office and talk with someone about the bike they will give you the straight scoop about it and know the answers to your original questions.

I would check it out you still might have some recourse from the dealer if you bought it from one. If by chance you find something wrong maybe you will be able to get some cash back or a refund. Don't be afraid to ask or you will never get. The above is just some of the scenarios of what could be.

Hope that everything works out the way you want it. Please keep us informed on how everything is going.

I agree, I'd be initially leery.

But then, lots of choppers got built by bikes bought at auction or were old clapped out police bikes. The four bikes built for "Easy Rider," (two of each) were all police bikes. One of our guys bought a few bushelbaskets full of shovelhead engine parts that MoCo had used for destruction and dynamometer tests. He built one of the finest 'show and shine' bikes in the county--drove it everyday.

Heck, look at how many foolish women have "recycled" BadInfluence63...

I'm pretty sure HD did make a 100th anniversary Police bike.

Heres another example if this helps:
