So yeah Kickstart one should never have a illusion of safety and should have some meaure of protection. I had 2 pit bulls in the house, assorted handguns and shot guns in easy reach but hidden and I live in the boondocks. For me its murphies law..you have it you won't need it.. And no stranger is warmly welcomed into my house for nothing. Everyone is an asshole till proven otherwise,eh. But....given the choice of back dirt road Vermont or any big city, its a simple choice for me and I think for obvious reasons.

I agree with all that you have said. I just didn't get into the argument. Remember my warnings to you when you took your trip to the west coast a few years back? I don't think you cared for my warnings either. All you can do with the folks that refuse to listen is pray things go well for them. They haven't had the same experiences and their perspective is based on thier own perception. I am very protective of my wife and kids and would never put them in harms warm by venturing into the badlands. Life is unpredictable enough as it is. As old as these old farts are on here, you are not going to convince them to use better judgement. As you well know we are wanting to get out of Houston now. I am sick of 5.6 million population that lives in this area.

Walk softly, carry a means of protection, and always be aware of your surroundings.

Not sure what you may have warned me about but the only thing I can think of is perhaps the carry a firearm advice. The only people I know that have state to state reciprocity are LEO's. I've been burnt by that a couple times and it sucks.

I can only control what I do. I enjoy a rousing debate and beg to difer moment. Everything anyone says is food for thought and consideration by anyone who reads it.

I figure topics and experiences that pop up here are open to debate and beg to difer oportunities. Its only individual opinions not law. And we all kow whjat they say about opinions.....lol

It really is too bad that the amount of hassles to carry out weigh the security of having something with you at all times. :icon_bang:

Been there done that and got to San Diego and back with no problems and no handgun. In fact been everywhere I'v gone w/out a handgun and have never needed it.

The one time I did bring a handgun I was going to the 50th Daytona and I got pulled over in NJ for no reason, searched and my original 1911A1 Remington Rand WWII Gov issue was confiscated, never to be returned. I was held in jail for too long and had to go back and forth from NH to Woodbury,NJ a couple times for court appearances and mad $$ in fines and court costs. So f*ck that noise. The whole time I had a permit to carry concealed from NH?

NJ sounds like a real nice place to avoid.

Personal protection does not have to be a handgun and it is not the save all if a person is reckless. A screw driver can be deadly and they aren't that hard use at a distance. Pepper spray, batons, and stunguns are viable options as well.

Yeah, I've been packin a pocket knife since college days, the one I have now is an open assist - almost a switch blade but legal here in CA. On my bike I have a pepper spray tucked up out of sight. I have one on my bicycle too. Most times when I'm traveling I pack my hammer. Trade tools, and tools of the trade... I make it a point to not start any trouble but sometimes you just can't get out of the way quick enough and then you need some back up. I'd prefer my 38 snub but in a pinch I can throw that hammer like Thor.

The batons are illegal here so if any of you plan a visit leave it home. Stun guns need a permit, but hand held tazzers are ok. Pepper spray is legal.

BI sounds like exactly why I leave my pistol home. Although in AZ you can open carry.

My wife can carry in 31 states. I joined the felon club 30 years ago so all I take with me is common sense and street smarts.
If someone wants my cash they can have it, I can always make more. If someone wants my life there going to have to work for it.
As a younger man the only time I found trouble is when I went looking for it.
I know that stuff can happen in a blink of an eye no matter where you are but I don't dwell on that.
Life is short so I live it.

Back to the topic of gps and xm radio. I love music so xm is something I've been considering.
I've got a cup holder on my left handle bar so that only leaves room for one more gadget on the right.
The wife and I both have smart phones with map apps. so I think the purchase of an xm module may happen in the near future.
I've been holding out in hopes that HD would offer a fitment for the new infotainment system in my 08 fairing.
