Sounds just like mine is performing. I'll check connections before I take it out this weekend. it is my first shovelhead, I always wanted one, but my softtail is old too, and I always am relieved when i pull into my gate after a ride knowing nothing broke!! Thats part of the adventure. I never leave home without my cell phone.

Super B or Super E? two different carbs. One has an accelerator pump(the E) and one a fuel enrichener on the carb itself(B).

I've had both on my 1983 and preferred the Super E for the accelerator pump. The super E took a little more tweaking then the Super B. What I like about S&S is that after 15 or so years they refurbed my S&S B for pennies. Awsome company in my opinion and experience.

I would call their tech help, describe the issues and they will talk you thru the necessary adjustments as it could be anything from a jet change to a on the carb body screw adjustment.

Just had a s & s super carb installed on my 82 FLH. Ran good at low rpm's now it falls out at higher speed. The stock choke cable is laying under the gas tank. Does the S & S not use this?

One other thing to check.
Since you said it failed at speed, that tells me fuel flow / delivery.
Float bowl set to low is the first I would check, but when it starts to cut out, open the left side gas cap a couple of turns. Make sure the 2 tanks are not creating a vaccum. The left tank cap is not vented the right is. The crossover tube on the top of the tanks under the dash could be kinked/plugged.

Mine has the fuel enrichener, i did replace the cross over fuel line, it was streched pretty tight and hard. i have come to the opinion that is a jetting issue. Took it out and rode it pretty hard then pulled a plug. It was grey, but rode into town and putted around for a while, rechecked both plugs and they were black with quite a bit of deposits. I'm thinking it is running to rich. I live at 6000 ft. My Harley guy wants to re-jet but I haven't had time to run it in to his shop, and it's starting to snow today. Thanks for all the info, this is a great forum.

Problem solved, I hope, on my shovelhead. I changed jets on the SnS, and it seems to run better. I haven't had a chance to give it a workout yet, hopefully the weather will warm up so I can.

Just saw this...Wanted to add that I put an S&S Super B before I put even the first mile on my brand new at the time 1983 FLHS. I favor the S&S Super B or E over any thing. Ran that biotch for 15-18 years no problems. One year when I was going thru the bike I sent S&S super B to S&S in Viola,WI to be R&R'ed and it cam back new for like 120$ or something. Quick turn around too. Couple years back I got a decent deal on the Super E with accelerator pump or something like that. Never quit got that one dialed in 100% but enjoyed it just the same. Sure would love a Super B or E on my 2001 EFI......

Hey Badinfluence, ya, that was a while back. I did play around with jetting, and at the same time i found that my coil was about to fall off, did some new wires, etc, and it is or was..starting to clear up. Hope to find out soon and do some more jetting. While I have your attention, check out my clutch post. It loaded crazy, you have to scroll down to read it with pic's. Thanks.

Badinfluence, Don't like the Magnetti? what you need is a dyno and a person that understands the Magnetti, once setup right they are great, I just replaced mine after 183,000 miles, problem was something that also happens with the S&S b, and d, leaking air between the throttle shaft and the bushings in the body, Dpon't know if the Magnetti can be repaired like S&S will do with theirs. With EFI it is all % of throttle and nothing to do with amount of air like a carburator Found one cheap on ebay, had Rick set it up and no problems all the way up to 6250.
