Does it have a grease fitting? if so it needs grease. Loose as a goose is normal.

So after you mentioned it I went out and checked mine and sure enough - it needed some grease.

Took some pics to help explain the process.

Pic 1 an overview of the shifter linkage on my bike - should be close to yours.
Pic 2 a different angle overview.
Pic 3 a close up - arrows point to the grease fitting, & where the grease comes out when it's full

if you look at the picture the lever that is connected to the shift linkage has an Allen head screw, maybe 3/16 you can access it from the front I use 6 inch extension on my ratchet and tighten it. If you follow the linkage rod back you will find another lever at the bottom there is a nut 7/16 maybe tighten that. If that doesn't help you can loosen the shift lever on the inside and support the shaft with a socket against the first ate you tightened and apply pressure to push the shift lever unto the shaft more, then tighten. Hope RK help of greasing the shaft works, because my thoughts probably confuse you.

:icon_hat: YOU KNOW YOUR STUFF :icon_hat:

i Had a loose bolt a couple weeks ago side line me for a couple hours until I got it figured out on the road.
The bolt that keeps the shifter lever axle connected to the front linkage arm came loose - I limped off the freeway in second gear got to a gas station pulled over and diagnosed it - as broken.
I stuck it in 3rd gear and got it to my brothers house a couple miles away - through heavy traffic - and red lights.
I had to let it cool down so I could get my hands into it and then I tried to tighten the Allen head screw - it tightened right up and all was fixed. It seems the screw even with only one thread on it will keep the arm in place so it must have a notch or some thing like that to keep it aligned. I got it nice and tight and road it away fixed.
I never touched that in 20 years so I guess it just worked its way loose.
I also lost a rear shifter peg last Sunday - just fell off on the frwy. Wound up having to ride our entire ride Sunday with only the front shifter - DUH - I had to think about every shift... I have the replacement on order.

I greased up the axle and it now doesn't rattle.

That new cam makes the bike really vibrate/shake much more at an idle than it used to. Pretty sure it is normal. I just have to start checking all the screws to make sure I don't have any loose ones. :icon_laughing:
