I was wondering if someone could help me with my 2008 Harley Davidson 883 Sportster. I had to purchase a new speedometer for my motorcycle, and when I put it on the fuel light stays on. The dealer told me he had a bulletin on the fuel light, and when you ride the motorcycle a few miles the light will go out. I did this and the light remains on. I than checked the fuel float, and it works perfectly. Can you help me with my problem? My email address is slipperysam1971@yahoo.com. Thanks, James Bradley

Hello,
The fuel light is still on. I have done what the Harley Davidson dealer told me to do. He said I needed to ride the motorcycle, and than the light should go off. I have ridden the motorcycle quite a number of miles, and that haven't solved the problem. If you could shed some light on this problem I would greatly appreciate it. My emaill address is slipperysam1971@yahoo.com
Thanks,
James Bradley

Hi James,
I have had similar problems. On most bikes that have a computer when you disconnect things like the speedo and some other electrical parts you will need to reset the computer. I am not sure what the dealer has to do but I would go to the dealer and ask him to reset your computer or clear it. Although it was not a Harley I pulled the gas tank off my Triumph and the computer needed to be reset, same thing with my Buell, pulled a module from the electrical system and then needed to reset the fuel injection system. I would bet that something needs to be reset or cleared especially a speedo. They don't want you to disconnect them and rack up miles on your bike.

Hope this helps!

Hello Lenny,
I am grateful for the information you gave me. I did what the Harley Davidson dealer advised, and it didn't do any good. I will take your advice and take my Harley Davidson to the dealer were I purchased it and let them take a look. I want to thank you very much for your help.
Thanks,
James Bradley
