To expect to be perfect is unreasonable, to strive for perfection is reasonable.

I like those sporty's. But I'm also a big sporty fan as you all probably come to realize.

I am, too, I always was.

Granted, I spent a lot of time doing the long distance thing on the slab. Heavier bikes carrying more fuel made sense. However, now I just ride for fun, just like when I was a teenager. I have no ego to protect, no one to answer to. I just have to take a few bucks and go anywhere I want.

Having seen the first Sportsters made as a little boy--and the guys who rode them--I think they come into themselves when ridden just that way. I have lots of Interstates around my home, I cannot even go two miles before I'm surrounded by Class A highways. But the goal is the same. Find a sunny day, some open road, and play a little hookie.

Comedian Steve Martin joked that every baby born should be issued a banjo. I think he's on the right track, but I'd give the kid a Sportster coupon, some crappy jeans and a road map.

I still own a 1983 Roadster ( XLS). Rode it for many, many trouble-free years. It sat, unused for 10 or so years as I just stopped riding. When I ( wife and I) got back on two wheels, we bought an 01 Ultra and I've given the Roadster to my daughter/son in law to use. Still a good bike but sitting unused didn't do it any favors. When son in law is ready to buy a big twin, the Roadster will go to my other daughter/son in law. As another poster said, it was a great 'one up' bike..Two up is rather tight . Gearing, with the 4 speed, is a bit of a drag as, quite often, 3rd is too much and 4th is lugging.
Still, it was a nice bike..still is.
