Hi,

I didn't get any manual with my bike,
so I was just wondering what was a good
maintenance manual?

If anyone has a suggestion,
or a favorite?

Thanks!

My story:
I bought my shop manual from the Harley shop that screwed up my bike - in the first year of owning it brand new. They damaged the output shaft seal in the transmission and then wanted me to pay for it. So - I marched in to the store part of the dealership. I found the shop manual for my bike. I never returned to a shop - any shop - ever again.
You can easily find something online these days for anything- A sportster manual is out there with your name on it.
I've done every oil change, repair, maintenance, rebuild, etc..... from that book. I've documented some for the forum here - feel free to look into them for some entertainment. Hey, I keep it real.

Make sure you get the official Harley Davidson Shop Manual - make sure it is for your model and year - if it's used make sure it's not missing any pages.
Even though you bike has had some cosmetic changes the bike is still stock and all the info in the book will be accurate.

Thanks Roadking,
I'll stop into Barger's (HD) next time I get a chance.
It's close by. :icon_hat:

I went into Barger's
but they wanted to order it for me. $60 (plus tax?)

I got one coming for $35 delivered.
I'm just going to try the Clymers.

They've seemed to be ok in the past.

For just basic maintenance it will probably do just fine.

When I needed to replace my cam the actual HD manual had every spec and fact from the factory.

When not if... you get to the point that you need to do some work, if you're not the hands on type there are some very good - private guys that wrench on bikes. I'd take my bike to them. They seem to care more about what goes on and they don't have a counter/dealer to hide behind if something goes wrong.

Bad decision to go with Clymer it is only lousy pictures of a HD manual. Sixty dollars is the price for Harley manuals and worth every penny. Had my oil changed at Bargers nice people great breakfast down the street. I was on a cross country run back in 2014. After Bargers we took Topanka Canyon road down to the PCH short road but nice. Goodluck with the Fatboy

Yeah,

You're probably right.

I'm going to probably get my oil and trans changed
and get an overall "checkup" on it soon, I think.

It's been a long time since I've wrenched on them.

And the way that Sporty rattles,
I better get all the important nuts checked. :icon_cheesygrin:

Found a use for the manual. :icon_cheesygrin:

I took the bars off today.

Considered changing them.

Straightened them out a little,
with one careful light whack.
Then put them back,
just slightly different position.

To raise them, I would have had to
change to original (longer) brake fluid line,
and I didn't feel comfortable doing that.

Man,
Great ride yesterday.
80 degrees in beautiful SoCal,
and the bars feel better, a little closer to me.

You could have used a scrape block of wood and saved the cost of the cheap manual... As for the brake lines it's do-able but messy.
Your bike looks real cool.
