I took one of the blacked out versions for a test ride last year... pretty fast, check out what the factory does to 'em and give that a shot... BTW, it was a blast!!
You can have it cheap. You can have it fast. You can have high quality. PICK ANY 2....

First reply other than the introduction that may get me kicked off the forum because of my love of the V Rod. The V Rod is as easily modified as all HD's are, for that matter as easy as all motorcycles are. If you're on a budget, start from the top with a high flow air cleaner, then do what is called a V Mod to your stock pipes which involves nothing more than drilling a bunch of holes in the tail end of them I think and finally when ever you change the fuel/air mixture of the bike you should have it mapped to make sure you're not running to lean. If you fall in love with the bike that's a whole different story. You'll want to modify the top end or go topless as it's called, go with some aftermarket pipes or at least slip ons and most importantly you'll need some kind of fuel management system like a Power Commander or any of the numerous systems out there. Warning, these bikes are like any HD, they'll turn into a money pit real quick and when it comes to the V Rod, the first noticeable expense after intakes, pipes and power commanders is rear tires. The bike makes them disappear as if it were a magic act. They're loud and proud like all HD's but just be careful boasting about how you feel that they're the best Harley ever made if you ever grow to feel that way, it's an easy way to make enemies pretty quick. For what it's worth, I've now read on four or five sites that the EPA is going to ban air cooled motorcycles in the year 2015 and if you really want to open a can of worms, just start talking about that ugly rumor, if it is in fact a rumor. It was a rumor in the sports car industry also about air cooled Porsches and you certainly don't see any more of those being manufactured and allowed in the US anymore do you. Enjoy your Rod and remember one important fact, all motorcycles are fast, I've never ridden a slow one but the V Rod is kind of like riding a loaded gun and if you point it in the wrong direction and pull the trigger, you could end up in a heap of trouble, believe me! Respectfully, Ed
