Took the bike for a couple nice rides Monday and Tuesday evenings. Tuesday, took a ride with the local H.O.G. to Eureka Springs. About 1-hour ride up/down twisty mountain roads. Very nice and met some new friends. We all ate dinner at the 'Rockin' Pig Saloon' (more of a sports bar for bikers).
I'm having to adjust to not having a tach. I find that I can shift:
1-2 @ 10mph
2-3 @ 20mph
3-4 @ 30mph
4-5 @ 45-50
and then anytime I'm above 65mph and on a flat road, drop it into 6th.
I find that if the engine starts to labor or speed drops near the down-shift point going up-hill, I shift down. It sure has a lot of torque for no more engine speed than it has.
Shifting I use my ear, I seldom look at the speedo - too many blind bats out my way - I can't take my eyes off the road.
As you get used to the bike you'll get an ear for when to shift, at least thats what happened to me.
