I just bought an '08 super glide and installed Wyatt's footboards/controls. I bought a cobra engine guard and believed the picture more than I should have; the guard only works with forward pegs/controls and not with the beefy Wyatt's steel brackets that occupy the two-hole mounts on either side of the lower front frame.

I've read that an OEM Harley engine guard is available that works with the Wyatt's floorboards. Any suggestions for a bar that will be assured to work with the Wyatt's boards? I may take it to Pigtrail HD in Rogers soon to see if they can fit a bar to it on-site.

I'm hoping to find something like the bar I had on my prior '01 T-Sport. It fit well with the forward footboards/controls and was great for mounting halogen foglights too.

Can you modify the one that you have now to fit? If not I think that your best bet would be to call wyatt up and ask them what will fit your bike. If that doesn't get the result you want then you will have to get the HD one or go to your dealer and physically see what will fit. Good luck with your project and put some miles on that bike!

My brake pedal is parallel with my frame tube, and I noticed by your photo that yours is flat with the foot board maybe you have something wrong with your install.

Good eye! I've not connected the brake rod yet. I twisted the OEM brake rod off in the rear master cyl pushrod and just received the new part this evening :)

I decided to work with a local machine shop to move both lower brackets outboard approx 1/4". I figure that having the bar and spending $50 to modify is better to pay return postage, restock fee and charge for any scratches and be out of an engine guard too.

Just wondering how you made out?

I installed all of the pieces and found that the real issue was clearance between the forward mounting bracket for the Wyatt's floorboard/forward controls and the Cobra engine guard lower mounting brackets. The Cobra engine guard has to first mount to the rearward of the two lower frame mounting holes. Then, the Wyatt's front floorboard mounts fit over the lower Cobra guard bracket. The Cobra bar comes with two round spacers that go between the forward of the two lower frame mounting holes and the front mounting hole of the Wyatt's mounting brackets on each side. The clearance issue is that the Wyatt's forward brackets both press against the welded area of the Cobra guard bar and brackets. The solution was to clearance both of the Wyatt's forward mounting brackets to create sufficient gap so everthing fits 'flat'. I removed enough steel from the back of both brackets but not too much to compromise their integrity using a bench grinder. I repainted the areas that I clearanced with gloss black krylon spray paint. I installed/clearanced them several times until there was just enough 'gap' between the Wyatt's mounts and the point in the Cobra guard where the brackets are welded. Once I had it all sorted out, I applied threadlocker blue to all of the floorboard bracket bolts to secure them.

The results look very professional and there is no evidence there was a clearance issue at all since the surface of the Wyatt's brackets that I hit with the grinder are covered by the chrome engine guard. Everything is solidly mounted.

I've also since installed the HD sissybar, rack and backrest and installed a new rear master cylinder. Once I get title/registration finished, I'm taking it for a nice long ride in the country.
