Uh... recently purchased a 2005 FXD fuel injected model. Check engine light came on a few times just for a few seconds then went off. Then engine light AND battery light both came on for a few seconds then went off. A H-D mechanic looked at it and said possible voltage regulator failure. (checked it with a volt meter... also checked stator.) Just put new regulator on the bike but engine light still comes on but only for a few seconds right after start up. New regulator is getting hot after a few minutes of idling and appears the battery is not charging like it should. I'm trying to get this issue figured out asap due to the fact my wife and I are (hopefully) participating in a benefit ride for the Wounded Warrior Project this Saturday. Any and all advice/ help in this issue will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You might have a loose connection- parts get warm when there is too much resistance and that is a sign of a bad connection. try checking for corrosion and clean contacts just to make sure... Hope it helps
You can have it cheap. You can have it fast. You can have high quality. PICK ANY 2....

That's a big negative, Lenny. Had another mechanic look at it and he thinks the stator is shorting out. Rough ball park estimate he gave is $250 bucks. That includes new stator, new primary gasket, new o-ring, primary fluid, and labor.

My son-in-law had this problem on a Sportster. I diagnosed it within 10 minutes after he brought it back from the Dealer with the same problem. It was a corroded main fuse connection. Bike engine light would come on and soon bike would die. Sometimes it would start and sometimes it would not until you waited a while.
