Ive got a 2001 heritage softail, I've had the wiring checked, new relays , new handlebars and wires, crank senser, ignition switch, and still can ride it till the temp gets above 90 degrees then can go 40 to 110 miles and then it will shut down. Every thing shuts off spedo stays at what speed I am going, everything quits. after 5 minutes the relay resets and I can go again for a ways. then the same thing happens .I had it to two bike shops to the tune of $1500.00 and still no one can figure it out . help please

Hi Welcome to the forum! Is it fuel injected? How do you know that the relay resets?

The bike is efi, the guy at the bike shop told me the relay resets after about 5 min. that's why I had the relays changed. by the way when I said that when it gets hot I mean the weather, when its cool out the bike runs just fine

Did you figure this out yet?
Sounds like your bike needs and air conditioner... :icon_winking: :icon_bang:

What happens when it "shuts down"? You say the speedo stays at the same speed - so the electrical stays working? The engine - does it shut off quickly like the ignition is shut down or does it sputter like it's running out of fuel? Lights still work? Brake lights? What relays did you have replaced? Did they really replace them?

Answer those and I'll know more of what is wrong....

One of my buddies was told he needed a new battery from the shop he takes his bike to. He sprung for the new battery - assumed - it was a HD replacement. A month after he had the battery replaced the bike wouldn't start. He pulled the seat and saw that the replacement battery was an after-market brand, and that there was a loose connection... He's thinking he might not have needed a new battery either. IF you can do the work - you know how its done and you know what parts you installed.
I'm thinking a loose connection that is near/close to a heat source. In the hot weather it can't keep cool enough and shorts out till it cools down.

When I say it shuts down , I do mean like you turn of the ignition switch. Every thing on the bike is off, no lights, no nothing. wait 5 minutes , then it starts up and I can go. road it 145 miles yesterday the temp didn't get above 85 , no problems.

It's been in the 90's for the last 2 weeks - it'd probably not do so good out here.

Well relays sure do sound like those symptoms. Are you sure they replaced the old ones? maybe you got a bad batch and it needs to be replaced again.
