A friend of mine needs a new rear belt. She was quoted $840 but she is as cheap as me.
70K miles ago I replaced the belt on my '96 FXD. I needed a clutch/spring compressor, but beside that I had all the tools and over a weekend was able to git er dun.
So I suspect with a twin cam I will need a different clutch tool - right?
Inner primary, tire, swingarm and exhaust. What else am I going to run into?
Any other suggestions?
Thanx

Dan

Hi MKE FE,
I couldn't tell you what exactly you will need for tools, my thoughts would be that the clutch side would be the same as your '96 FXD but don't take my word. Make sure that you do not tighten the belt too much and this I do know. The output shaft with the sprocket on it can start to leak. And that can turn into a big problem.

I was wondering how you guys made out with that?
I'm going to be needing that someday and wanted to hear your take on difficulty.

The only hard part was breaking the comp nut loose. 6" pipe on a bar did the trick.
I should buy some air tools, but I am too cheap.
Taking the tire swingarm exhaust was time consuming for a non-pro wrench but no show stoppers.
If you have the time and inclination, go for it yourself.

Thanks for the update :icon_You_Rock:

I've been doing my own wrenching since the beginning, I've had the wheels off a few times now.
I bought one of those MC lift jacks that picks the bike up under the frame and keeps it level.
I have to tighten or replace the head set bearings next and get new tires so I might just knock it all out at once and call it done. I'll do a thread on it with pics when the time comes.
