When I bought my new Street Glide and departed the dealership for a 100 mile trip to my home, I assumed all would be fine. Within the first 15 miles I was concerned about the noise from the engine/trans or primary chain that I nearly turned back to return this defective new motorcycle. The problem was that I was along way from home and the dealer was closing by the time I got on the road.
The trip home was not enjoyable as I thought something was seriously wrong with my new bike.
The nearby dealer, after doing a test drive told me it was normal for this model to make that kind of noise in 6th gear.
To possibly quiet it down they recommended putting a different type oil in the tranny.
This has made no improvement and I'm wondering if I'm nuts or what. Anyone out there have knowledge/experiance with this?

I've never heard anyone else say anything like that. That doesn't mean it's wrong but I'll ask around for you. What does it sound like? How many miles do you have on it now and what did the dealer suggest? Have you brought it back to them again after you changed out the oil?
If in doubt go to another dealer and see if they all agree...

You can have it cheap.
You can have it fast.
You can have high quality.

My local dealer is the only one I have as yet asked about this noise. It sounds like some loose piece of metal rattling internally in the power train. The service techs at the dealer said it has been reported by other owners of the 2012 transmissions. Their only suggestion was the oil change.
It is most obvious at 55 to 70 with cruise control engaged. I take care of it with the radio or CD volume.

I guess if you cant hear it and its not effecting anything then all is good. I've asked around and no one else has said anything about a noise...

I too have a 2012 Street Glide. I have never heard a Transmission noise, but there is a very obvious "tick" like a valve tap. This is common in the 103" I have 5000 miles and ithas neverbeen a problem. I have spoke to several different service techs at different dealerships. One stated " if I had a nickel for every new owner of a 103 that asked about that tick, he would be rich". It sounds bad but is not harmful. Hope this helps! Most likely you arre like me and just an over protective new daddy!
