There is more then one way into and around Alaska. ALCAN,Cassiar,Yellowhead,Klondike loop,Glenn Hwy to name a few and not to mention the waterway ferry option which is $$$$. I'm focusing mainly on the Alcan as that has better road conditions and more frequent services.

I saw something on the history channel? about the road from Washington state to Alaska and the road was in very poor condition. Very heavily traveled by trucks. Is it like that now?

Thanks BI I'll check them out. Off the subject there is a great boat cruise that into Alaska. I know some people that have done it and loved it.

Thanks for the tip but I am set on riding not floating. And its quite pricey:

Thats not including the passenger and vehicle fare. Everything included and a 2 day ride on a tin can its over 1200$. And thats per person.

I mean I-15 in Helena, MT not I-35.

Heading out of New Hampshire, jumping on I-90 West(unless the tolls get to ridiculous then I will have an alternate route ready) and following all the way to Helena,MT and catching I-35 North to and thru Calgary to Edmunton,AB and over to Dawson Creek,BC and the start of the Alcan Hwy. Gonna go to Fairbanks and maybe Waissilla to see Sarah Palan if there is time and then back to NH. I only got 5 weeks, not a whole lot of plus minus time there. My wife might be driving the support vehicle for us? She wants to ride on the bike but she tends to be a walking liability.

Why not save on tolls, distance and Chicago, go into VT. up to the top and into Canada, then shoot accross on nice roads flat most of the way and no traffic like on 90 or 80

I been as far east of Canada as Winnepeg initially using the QEW/401. And it starts to get sparse much after west of Toronto as its does between Montreal and Toronto. And as far east in Canada as Nova Scotia. Everything is much more expensive then in the lower 48 because of the GST and another tax,PST? Gas is sold in liters, 5 liters to a gallon. Its about 1.30 cents a liter and up, so thats over 6$ a gallon now. Near double that in the USA. Hotels and food also are more expensive as a consequence of the extra taxes and socialized medicine. Naw I'll take the good ole USA as long as possible and find ways around the TPK fees. I think they stop west of Illinois on the I-90 anyways?

Ok I can see that, i just hate the ride through the midwest on 90-80 or the scenic route 20 all the way to the Missouri River, then I love it. Enjoy your trip it is on my list, it will be my next big ride unless I run out to the west coast again on a whim. Alaska is the best ride in the US I beleive.

I am planning on doing some camping, great advice any other helpful tips will be appreciated.

If you are going to set up a camp make sure you bring some rope, clothes lines and securing food in a tree is good tip.
Make sure you tie your clothes lines taller than the tallest person there or at night when you are walking around you are sure to "clothes line" yourself... :icon_bang:

You can have it cheap.
