 Post subject: Removing stud for Primary Tenioner

05 FLHTI I have, I up graded to the Hayden chain tensioner. After 100 miles I decided to change the oil to find fine metal dust like material in the oil. This area has always been clean oil for the most part when I service it yearly. I installed the Hayden Tensioner as they specified, just the tensioner without any shims at 5/8". I was so upset about this and started to remove the Hayden Tensioner, that I striped the Torx hole on the head of the bottom bolt. Now I need to remove it somehow. I've tried a Easy out, failed. Is there any tool available to remove this stud? It is funnel shaped to sit flush in the original HD bracket. I am P-D off with Hayden, NO return PH calls from them and I will never buy any of their products again. If anyone asks, I am mechanically capable for the task. Don't want to go to the Dealer or another shop due to $$ and DELAYS in getting it done. Any suggestions?? MG

I've been there.

First thing, calm down and relax - I've busted more things because of temper than I care to admit.

I'd love to help, can you shoot a pic of what the situation is so I can get a clear idea of what we're working with?

I used to have MG and Triumph sports cars. The brits are great at making beautiful cars. The metal they used on the other hand was softer than that on american cars. I've done my share of easy outing broken bolts under a car in the winter, pulling one out of a bike shouldn't be too difficult.

Hint: to post pics here you need to make them web sized. If you don't know how to do that, post it somewhere else and link to it. I need to see what you're talking about.

I think that was a Phillips head at least it is on mine, but anyway I think it's a 5/16th screw. Use a left twist drill and while you are drilling the bit should lockup and the screw will come out. If not you will drill the head off then you can remove the tensioner and you can just turn it out with no problem unless you used green locktite. The hole goes through the inner primary. Good luck
