I know what you mean. There's the old adage of "returning to your first love." And I've done that with every hobby (and woman) I've come across.

I got into big-twins as a boy working in Milwaukee. My bike club was in Madison. While only a jaunt of 80 miles, it was a windy east/west route, replete with over-the-road trucks and only one real building--a tattered old supper club called "The Gobbler." I needed a heavier bike. And of course, bike clubs are enamored with bored out big-twins slathered in both chrome and radical cams.

But, admittedly, I'm a Sportster guy. It was the first bike that struck me as a boy, a bike I enjoy riding, and place where I can relax and be the biker I truly am. Don't get me wrong, Black Betty is the quintessential "perfect motorcycle" and I'm lucky to have her. But I'd rather cruise on the Sportster.

We are kindred spirits of this "full circle" you mention. In a stroke of irony, that Hummer fuel tank you owned is the exact model of the 2.2 gallon peanut tank on my present Sportster. It is part of that "profile" I enjoy, and frankly the best designed tank in history.

"Imagine a king who fights his own battles. Wouldn't that be a sight?" Brad Pitt as Achilles in the movie 'Troy'
