I bought a 2000 Fatboy new in March 2000, and rode with the friend that convinced me to buy it, for 7 years, 15,000 miles. In 2007 he found some other guys to ride with, and he died last year (unrelated issue), so things sure have changed.

Anyways, I didn't ride for a couple years for a variety of issues, but re-registered my bike last fall, put in a new battery and rear tire, and took a spin late in the season, and just took er out Sunday for a 200 mile spin. Sure felt good!

Now I (Think!) I need a radio w satellite, saddlebags for all the junk I carry, and thought of either spending big bucks on the accessories, or trading in for an bagger. I really like my Pearl Red and Black color, and prolly wouldn't consider anything else as far as color. I stopped by the local HD dealer, and looked at a couple of bikes parked outside. I really like the Road Glide, but I dunno if I can swing the $$$ difference!

So anyways, I've got lots of other toys, a generally un-cooperative wife, no kids, and lots of other BIG expenses coming up.

I'm planning to ride to Lake George for Americade, and Laconia the next week. If you're interested to meet up, let me know. I really can't stand smoking, so I stay away from smokers. Otherwise I'm a blue color worker that likes to talk anything mechanical. I also collect Corvairs.

The important thing is that you're out on the road. As for money, well, it took four or five years for me to get Black Betty the way I wanted her. Piece at a time.

For me it's not money now, it's the weather. In Wisconsin we ride when we can ride. I have a smaller bike and I've been exploring the back roads, parts of the area I had not ridden on for many years. And as many joke, I get lost close to home! For example, I "lost" a road I've been searching for going on five years now. Found it by accident, and lost it only a half a tank of fuel from my house. But it sure is fun to wander around, and I feel better when I do not have goals.

I found a few bucks in our penny jar last night. We are between storms here today. Should get into the high 60s today. Actually, it's the riding I enjoy the most.

As for smoking, my concern is two-fold. I don't like smoke either, but that's personal. However, there's a bigger picture. I've noticed that when a biker pulls into the lot at my local dealership, he unzips his jacket and takes out a cell phone and a cigarette.

This really struck home the first time I saw my club's new clubhouse. They now place a black brick into a flagpole patio upon the death of a member. Half of the guys from my era are dead, guys who should be 55 to 60 years of age. Gunfire has only killed one of them. Too many died from ill health, heart attacks, and lifestyle choices. Yes, this is a choice. But I wonder how many of them would chose life if they knew they were to die early.

Welcome to the forum, and I congratulate you on speaking your mind.
