Hey all, Smokee here. About 42 years riding various brands of motorcycles, currently on a '11 FLHTK (Limited), Dk. Root Beer/Lt. Root Beer. I live in central Texas about mid-way between Houston and Austin. Learned a lot from some other H-D forums during the time I was down after wrecking my '07 Yam. Royal Star Venture last April. It was a great bike, with 5 year unlimited mileage warranty with free road side assitance (that I never needed), but the rear brake was VERY touchy...hence the lock-up, tank-slap, bone crunching wreck. Anyway, while healing the broken bones, I did a LOT of research. I decided that what ever brand of touring bike I bought next would have ABS. I was down to either a Goldwing or an Ultra. Tried the Wing...couldn't fit comfortably on the rider's foot pegs. Rode 5 Harley's in one day and decided on the '11 Ultra Limited. That was early August and I've loved it, even though it doesn't have nearly the power of the Venture's 1300 V-4, and in spite of the fact that in the last 4 months it's had more mechanical and electrical failures than all of my previous 4 Yamaha's/Suzuki's combined. I was confident in jumping on my Venture and riding all over Texas or adjoining states, but the Ultra Limited already has me distrusting it's dependability. So, I'm here on this forum to learn more about known issues with Ultras in particular and H-D's in general so I can keep myself from spending the night on the side of some desolate West Texas highway some cold, windy night. Not bashing or trying to be negative...just stating the facts. Looking forward to reading and learning more. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum from central Florida...
Mechanical and electrical failures on a 2011? Has it left you stranded? Has everything been warranty fixed ok?
Weird, my brother in law has purchased 2 new and 1 used HD in the past 4 years and never had one thing happen that left him stranded and has only had one issue that needed warranty work.
I've owned a used Sporty and now have a new Street Glide and have never been broke down with either of them....strange...
Not sure if any Ultra Limited folks have had similar issues on here or not, perhaps one of them will post up....at any rate, if I hear anything outside of here I'll let you know too.

Hey Smokee welcome aboard. Had my roadking since '94 gotta tell ya so far not one time in almost 40,000 miles have I had one problem... Great mechanic... me!! I bought the shop manual after the dealership f'd up the bearing on my tranny output shaft while replacing a tire, back in '95. She's never been back to a dealer since and I'm going to have to be boots up before she does. RK
You can have it cheap. You can have it fast. You can have high quality. PICK ANY 2....

Thanks guys. I figure things will work out OK. I'm just a little disappointed that the bike has already had intercom failure, cruise control failure, switch knobs falling off and a front end wobble. I'm betting that once all of that is fixed (this week) my confidence in the bike will come back as I ride it more. I've got too much $$$ in it to turn back now. Y'all take care.
