Hey Everyone, It's never too early to plan that trip to sturgis, If we find out who's going and where we'll all be maybe we can have a HRF get together meet and greet.
I'm trying to see if we can talk the Headmaster into getting a booth there and getting some swag.
So far: He's working on some HRF T' shirts and Hats, but we got to show some support or he won't do it. In the planning stage: New hats and shirts for sale here on the forum to help offset the costs of the trip. There is a minimum order and he's not one to push swag on the site here, but I have no problem seeing if it will fly.
So if you think you might be interested in helping out - ideas for graphics - pre orders - spreading the word... He said we can use this thread to plan and discuss the ideas.
If we can't get it together in time for this year we have one heck of a jump start for next. I told him, he should do it ever year... lets see if we can talk him into it.

I think this year is out for me. I know that the wife is going to Aruba with "The Posse" in a few weeks and I'll be holding down the fort.
Truth be told, I think "the fire in the belly" is gone. As you guys know, I've been taking a lot of day trips around the area--many of them before dark due to a faulty headlamp, now repaired.
I seem to be able to garner all of the energy in the world to go where I want to go and return when I feel like it, but the idea of a hitting the slab to SD (a straight shot for me all of the way) seems like drudgery. Betty could make it without breaking a sweat, but for some reason it feels tedious to me.
I wish I had one of those Star Trek transporters. Put me in downtown Sturgis or Deadwood and I'd be the last one standing, like in all of the vacations I took. But yikes, bolting me to an agenda...

I know what you're saying, but I've always looked forward to those events if knew I'd be in the company of people I like. Just going - for the sake of being there - isn't my thing, I really enjoy meeting up with my brothers and swapping BS and getting a little loose and just being a biker. Its been a long time since my hair was down to the middle of my back but being surrounded by the love and respect of the group makes me fell like I did back then. Plus now I get to sit there and let the Young Bulls bump heads and enjoy the show.
I lit a fire under "Headmaster"s azz, about the t-shirts and hats, lets see if he can pull it together.
I might not make it this year myself, big job in the wings is still in the wind... Worse case just like in the past, a few nights before the event, I get a wild hair and before I know it the bike is packed and I'm off. Time will tell.

Oh, another thing, the 'biker rendezvous' is fun, but we did that every weekend in the early 1970s. We were driving all over the state, partying with every club we could find and getting support lined up for the helmet law repeal. Think of it as 'Sturgis every weekend.'
And like I said once, the thrill of having a girl young enough to be my granddaughter, in a bikini, selling me a eight dollar tap beer has lost its charm...

Truth be told, I'd rather have a biker rendezvous at the grand canyon (Invite only) and a small group of good 'ol boys for a nite or 2 bring your own supplies and get a chance to relax and soak up some friendship. Sturgis just happens to be a known meet that some folks plan for yearly.
I went to place out by the canyon one year called Mormon Lake, about an hour south, great camping, no police, we even capped a few rounds for the ships and giggles. It was a long time ago but I'd reason that it hasn't changed all that much, one never knows though.
Hell I'd ride to New York if I knew I'd have a place to pitch the tent and some friends to share a few tall tales with. Only problem is when it gets to those longer rides I'm going to need some maintenance to get her home, I hate doing oil changes in the dirt... And then it takes a few days each way, time is always at a premium.

Your read my mind. For years I've been trying to get a more central or midwest point-of-call for bikers tired of Sturgis. I'm doing so to get the T-shirt concession. Let me explain. Bikers like certain things at a rally or drunken brawl. Besides hot women and cold beer, those things are mystery meat to dunk into even more questionable sauces, and bizarre attractions. Get yourself a bizarre focal point, the bikers will come. I recommend The Dickeyville Grotto. https://dickeyvillegrotto.com/I intend to get some black Harley T-shirts, which are printed, "Can I show you my Dickey?" I will then have more than enough money to build that CVO Sporster I've been dreaming about...

A few 'beer babes,' the warm sun, a lame excuse to ride on some different roads, a smaller crowd of idiots, no fighting for hotel rooms or camping space, and a chance for 'love' around points of interest weirder than the guys that show up? Out west they build a big wooden effigy out of railroad ties and people come over the decades to watch them burn it down. Bikers, beer, babes. If there's no hassle, who cares where we go? By now we all know where Wall Drug is, and not many of us care anymore. Yeah, the boot store is nice...but...
